Hypothetically speaking, you have the money to buy either a:
1966 Ford Mustang Coupe - its red with the classic 289W, auto. OR 1967 Ford XR Falcon - Gold in color 302W auto Both cars present in excellent condition. The lifestyle of the new owner is to go to car meets, do winery tours/weddings and have something pretty cruisey. You love both. The Mustang has been a childhood dream car, but the XR has some sentimental value because it was one of your wedding cars. The wife is partial to the red Mustang, but she will never drive either car. Which one one would you choose & why?

I would chose the Mustang. XR came with a 289 stock and the car meet guys would pick up on the 302.

So one absolutely has to make a choice?
The Falcon would make me less unhappy than the Moosetongue. |

Go with your heart. This isn’t a logical purchase. Which one would you rather see opening the garage door?
I think they will be much the same ownership experience and driving experience. They may draw slightly different crowds. |

Yes the XR won't be 100% original, but it is dead clean and will look original from the outside as is the Mustang.
I had my heart set on the Mustang for such a long time, but this particular XR I have known for more than 25years so there is a connection there. A Gold XR was never my first color choice but due to my connection with it and knowing its history, its not a bad choice either. However, the red mustang stirs up something in me. Hard to explain. The love of classic american cars is just something I truly appreciate. What would I be happier to open the garage to? Either, but the pull is still towards the stang by a small margin.

Xr gt's are rare compared to a 65 mustang. The mustang is much more identifiable i think then an old falcon, but im very much a falcon bloke. 4 doors is more then 2. So im split on this one. |

I love my falcons, always have. But the chance to own a Mustang also is a tough one.

XR Falcon,
Because it seems there's 500,000,000 1965-1966 Mustangs on the road and about three XR Falcons I've seen in my life. That era Mustang is like seeing a VS Commodore with an Ecotec. |

XR! unless the Mustang was a fastback. As stated above the notchbacks are just too common.

Only probs i've found with the lefties is the lack of good vision for overtaking.... even with manual lefties, it doesnt take long to become 2nd nature.

Mmmm, hard choice tbh but business wise the Pony would have a bigger draw card than the XR no doubt about it unless you link with a business that advertise's alot of our Aussie muscle for weddings etc.
I had Mustangs for my sons wedding last April due to 2 things, my connections knowing ol skool mustang owner or 3 and they tick the box's having a convertable option when needing 2/3 cars. The other this is sourced through a guy who has a strong FB/SM social network. Same can apply for the XR obviously but I see farfar more Mustangs used for occasions than Falcons. Go what your heart tells more than anything else blueoval. Either in the garage will stir the juices.

XR for mine, mustangs of every persuasion are as common as bumholes... Not so much with the falcon.. That and I'm an Aussie Ford sort of feller. (Not that I would kick an early mustang out of the garage for any minor indiscretion).
Cheers, Tony |

Some excellent points you lads raise for both.
The issue for me is my heart is on both for different reasons. I have always dreamed of owning a Mustang, but Ive know this XR for over 25years and its owner. The car is in our wedding photos along with another mates XY fairmont. There is history and sentiment attached to it. I was never in the process of looking for another falcon to be honest but this one would be the exception if I cannot find the right Mustang Im looking for. To those in the know - how hard is it to get into the wedding car, chauffer tour driving industry? I have noticed there are a tonne of wedding car hire websites with american cars as their pitch. This is the type of competition I am up against. Would the XR be a better solution or am I dreaming? I need the cold hard facts here.

As a wedding car I would make the assumption that with the Mustang only having 2 doors, and basically useless back seats, the XR would probably be the more practical choice, being able to carry the bride and bridesmaid's, or grooms and groomsman? And not just one of each.

My other question was about which has the better resale.
Considering I am going for the based models (not fastback or limited edition or GT etc) what would be a better choice in the long run?

IF you've ended up making $$$, some tax free possibly and contributing to your lifestyle does resale matter in the big picture, you also have biz tax deductions on annual business and running costs......
Ok resale ? either ither to me but will there be many boomers left re buying the XR haha Can't drive around aged facilities.
