Default 07 LT TDCi timing chain or timing belt?

Gday guys,
After owning an 03 TDCi Mondeo in the UK and thoroughly enjoying it a few years back,I'm looking at the Focus LT TDCi. I believe its a similar engine, tuned down a little, but I've not been able to determine if it runs a chain or a belt.

Anyone able to confirm for me please?

It has both. The exhaust cam is driven by a belt from the crankshaft. The inlet cam is driven by a short chain from the exhaust cam.

you should enjoy the TDCI its 100 Kw and 320 nm out of a 2 liter motor, not the lower 1.8 liter 74kw motor that was in the UK Mondeo.

It has both. My TDCI is on 181000. I,m getting the belt and water pump changed at its next service 195000. Ford say 240,000 and Peugeot say 180000 so I,m doing a bit earlier than Fords recommendation as the motor is a joint PSA/Ford effort.

Has anyone replaced suspension components on higher mileage Focus TDCI,s? My handling and ride is loose to say the least.

Replaced the front shocks in mine last week with Pedders units. Pedders were $191/side vs Ford $207 for the left and $320 for the right (or something like that).

Mine's only done 87k but she gets a hammering on the dirt roads around here, the old ones had started to leak and were picked up at the 90k service. I also had gravel in one of the engine mounts which presented as a very weird shudder when reversing, but that's another story.

Handling is surprisingly a lot better, I didn't think they were that bad.

Went for a test drive today and was very impressed with the ride. Not as much power as the 2.0 Mondeo Wagon, but a snappier feel and a much needed 6th gear.

I've got Eibach 30mm lower progressive springs with matched Bilstein B8 shortened shocks and a 22mm rear whiteline sway bar on mine and it still rides comfortably and now it handles like its on rails.

You can get the Bilstein B6s which are normal length shocks for non lowered cars at a pretty good price from EP:

Thats the price for a full kit (front and rear shocks) and you can take away 19% from that price as we don't get VAT, I found it cheaper than sourcing parts locally as everything for Focus here has Australia Tax up the wazoo on it.

At current exchange rates minus 19% for the VAT we dont have to pay thats $725 for all 4 Bilstein B6 shocks, then maybe $100 shipping on top.

Have you had any other parts requiring replacement other than normal servicing requirements on the way to 180,000 km?

Did the brakes at 150000
Did an EGR valve soot/gunk clean out at 150k.
Last week $150 for the horn stopped working.
Battery at 150000.

That's it. Engine is still terrific still averages 5.2litres per 100km. Gearbox and clutch fine.


Best car I have ever owned and I have owned a lot!

Two front grills (upper and lower) .

Upper grill was taken out by a duck. Lower grill was taken out by a magpie just last week. Neither of the birds enjoyed the experience.

Just replaced timingbelt and water pump at 198500 used a Peugeot specialist who is well create on these engines as same motor in 407 308and c5 charged 890. Showed me old parts belt was okay pump wearing. Done 600 kms since all good.
