Default Selling (not stealing) Catalytic Converters

I’ve got a couple of spare cats, OEM small twin metallic and single ceramics by ECIA.

What kind of prices are actually being paid, and if I don’t have social media, where do I look for good/recommended buyers? My 2022 experiences with scrappies in Sydney have been unimpressive. They’re seeming to pay less than ever - was offered barely $4/battery recently.

I don’t “need” the money outright but figured it might be a nice circle to raise the cash and then spend it on improving an exhaust actually fitted to one of my cars.

Cant you look up your location or close to it on Gumtree and see what people are selling them for? You don't need social media to look up gumtree ads

Here is where I used to sell them when I had the yard, you wont get anything close from the guys on gumtree or face book, have been paid up to $1500 for a single cat before, you just look up the cat part number on this site and it gives you a price.

https://www.ecotradegroup.com/en/?gc...xoCtjIQAvD_BwE

You have to sign up to use the service but it has a free service that lets you check 3 cat part numbers a day.

Gumtree, ebay (although they take a fee), or get someone with a FB account and ask them to list on your behalf. I'm currently doing that for my 90+ year old neighbour who doesn't have an account.

I find FB really good for this kind of stuff, no fees and you get to see who you are dealing with, less likelihood of being dicked around but not completely zero.

PJ, when you say it’s required to sign up, is it a fee-based structure or just a formality to weed out some of the dropkicks?

Sign up is free, but you can only check 3 part numbers a day, if you want to pay you can get more, I used to just check 3 each day for a price then end of the week send em off

I’ve got two of each in my “good scrap” pile:

Single unit has Zeuna Stärker branding, not ECIA. My mistake.

Couldn’t find any meaningful marks on the long units, they are 100% OEM original though - seen enough to know, and the flex coupling has Alfa-Fiat-Lancia stamping.

Thank you!

That’s really interesting - I’d have thought the 2-1 (metallic core) to come up much higher and the stumpy cat (they are the ceramic matrix 46739666 sadly) to be lower. So I’m looking at $700 tops before they clip my ticket for DHL freight.

Still nothing heard from the website, after I signed up.

Yep, your conformation has not gone to your junk folder?

Just a tip though, cut off as much of the excess piping as possible, it saves on freight cost

No, I check that as a matter of practice when signing up to things.

Shame they don’t have a consolidating agent here for freight, my dearest is ready when haggling in Russian is required - I presume the company is based in Lithuania or Bulgaria.

The only ones they have listed for a patrol are the one that is part of the exhaust manifold $237.30 or one that looks like a standard cat $69.48.

Looks like the free service is down to 1 search a day now:(

You can have a cat that contains a lot of precious metal, I have had them go as high as $1500, and I have had some that are worthless, as the cost to extract the little precious metal they have in them negates their value.

Cats vary so much in value it comes down to how much rhodium, platinum and palladium they can get out of it, the copper, nickel, cerium, iron and manganese etc is not even in the equation when they give you a price.

If they get just 2 grams of rhodium from each cat there is $450, 2 grams of palladium is $69, and 2 grams of platinum is $32, most cats will have between 2 and 7 grams of each metal.

Murphy was obviously lining up to give me a golden shower when I started this thread, Friday the daily’s cats blocked up terribly and I couldn’t hold 110 uphill without overheating. Naturally, I was on a 600km trip.
