Wheel advice for my AU

Well here is the long story short...

I have my wheels stolen recently and have gone through insurance. Instead of ordering the new wheels, we were given a check for the ammount.

I now have the option of buying what I want from where I want.

There questions I have are:
- Is USA Ebay reliable for ordering wheels? Has anyone done this?
- Is the correct offset for a set of 20" wheels on an AU, +40, 5x114.3?

Next question, there wheels in the link below will fit on an AU yes?

If thats the case, it would be around $1220 for a brand new set of 20" wheels delivered? Or am I reading this wrong?

Any advice about dealing with USA Ebay is welcome.

PCD is correct but I thought offset was +35? Could be wrong though.

Remember anything imported over $1k may attract tax.

What Austin says is rite over 1k will get hit with tax, price the postage first, it may work out cheaper to post in 2 lots than what the tax is.

I think you are right with the +35 Austin, but I believe +40 will fit (40-32 or something along those lines?) Anyone able to clarify?

I was unaware of the import tax though, which is very handy to know thanks.

I got given a link to a site from another member (in the wheel and tyre section). They are a dealer for American wheels, with some pretty epic brands!

I have a few mates that bought wheels from overseas nothing but trouble and the wheels then warped and some cracked when they went to ship them back for warranty this is what the companies said because the wheels were bought outside the us and were used outside us conditions that they would not honour the warranty I'd rather buy my wheels here then if something does go wrong at least you have someone to chase.

Oh and one guy bought aset for his hot rod when he went to get the final engineers he couldn't get it cause the wheels didn't comply with adr's or some legal aspect the engineer said that the wheels had to have some stamp or something along those lines for them to be legal he also said that if you ever have an accident and the cops go through your car and find the wheels unroadworthy they can void insurance etc...

Not trying to put ya off mate but just something to think about.

As long as you're careful who you're dealing with, you should be OK. Ask LOTS of questions if you're not sure about anything!!!

And yes be wary of the import taxes if the value of the goods+postage is over $1000.....like Whoosha said, try to break it up into smaller 'portions' if possible.

Cant help with ebay usa... however with the offset, my old 20's were +42 and fit no worries at all... The offset is only 5mm different, i believe 9' wide wheels fit all round so there should be plenty of clearence.

I think postage would defeat the purpose, tonight I went to Summit Racing to look at Dart blocks with the dollar being $ 1.05 and all, shipping was $1375. So I figured I'd be getting % tbe from Pavtech or something when the time comes.

Hi...did you get the RIMS WHEELS 20X8.5 +40 5x114.3 for your AU? Did you have any problems with +40? I'm thinking of getting similar set.

IMPO if your looking spending around 1200 get them locally. In addition to just being easier and removing the fear factor or not knowing from buying overseas, just imagine if they sent you the wrong offset and you had to send em back

There is NO warranty whatsoever on anything you buy from the US - the US laws don't apply to non-US citizens so; the companies over there are happy to take your money but, if there is ANY PROBLEM WHATSOEVER they will DO NOTHING to help you. Why? Simply because the freight is worth more than the item in most cases.

If the item is worth over $1000 (with freight included) then you have to pay exise duty (not a huge amount), fuel excise if air freighted (ridiculously greater amount), then GST on top of all that. So BEWARE.
