As he said - his son was pretty good and was already stressing out from when he did it. The working to pay the parents' excess and 1 week working for the Porsche guy was a balanced method of penance - it also will show him how much effort it takes to make $500 - on junior wages. The article mentions he didn't know how to drive a "standard" transmission. I figure this means manual - should be "superior" transmission
Surely he would know he should not have been engaging any gears with the garage door closed!

I suppose one more things needs to be said

Had that been me back in the day, my dad would have gotten out his broad leather belt and given me twenty lashes.

Dont forget the guys is a journalist, who has to sell stories. That being said I wonder what his reaction would have been if it was his car and not a test drive? This makes me think of all the things and stories I could tell of my mishaps.

Good article. But I have one problem... I'm pretty sure he didn't "accidentally" start the Porsche. The son sounds like your average novice - only interested in the stereo system and interior, obviously no idea how to operate a manual car. It happens though and I guess it could have been alot worse.

very well written article, and for once commonsence was used, he is right about the son punishing himself more than the dad ever could, he will never live that one down.
