Default Spark miss with new ignition components

Hi,

My AUIII XR6 has been rough with a miss for a while. So I have replaced the plugs, leads and coil. Didn't change a thing, still rough, so I decided to get a non intrusive spark tester onto it while it was idling. Sure enough cylinders 3 & 4 are missing...... Well I'm a bit stumped. Good coil, good leads, good plugs. Just to humour the situation I thought I would swap the plugs around in case one had a cracked insulator but they were fine. So it was suggested that it could be the crank angle sensor. It's not a consistent miss but it's not far off. How likely is this? Any other ideas of what it might be?

All the injectors feel (by touch) like they are firing but I would not be able to pick up a quick miss.

im not sure if this will help you or not
but check the wiring plug which plugs into the coil pack
in the earlier ef 's and el's sometimes the metal pins ends up dislodging from inside the plastic plug and slipping out the back of the plug.
if they have you will see a little tab on them which holds them in, you can bend the tab out a bit then refit the pin into the plastic plug again.
it will click back in. then check they are all still tight in there.
they can play up going over bumps etc and it's a hard thing trace
sometimes they dont even make contact with the pins in the coil and wont fire the coil at all

i always use some dielectric grease on the pins in the plug too, just incase the coil gets wet
it looks after the connections, seals them from water, oil, dust etc,they wont corrode.
handy too if you ever steam clean / pressure wash your engine bay

the crank angle sensors dont like being dirty either, or the wheel on the back of the harmonic, i usually degrease and wash them off
