Im doing all new suspension in my ute. I want adjustable coilovers in the front. Ive read a little here on AFF. It seems people are hot and cold about XYZ's, kinda partial to bilsteins, and big on KONI's.
Also open to options for rears too. Probably go with SSL king leafs. Open to suggestion for rear shocks. Although my ute is adaily driver, i want the option of comfort and performance. Recommendations?

Monroe Gas Magnums for the rear. Had them in the old ute and was happy with them. I had GT Sports in the front and thought they were ok but from all accounts coilovers will be another step up altogether.
Can get you part numbers for the Konis if you need them.

I had new monroe GT's in my EF with king spring ssl and it was a stiff ride. If the rears a little stiff, i dont think it would be all bad, but comfort up front is where it'll matter.
Cheers austin. If you can get them easily and post them that would be sweet. Cheers mate.

Do you think putting a decent set of coilovers (koni, tein, bilstein etc) in the front, with just a half decent shock set (monroes, pedders) will ruin the ride? Just tring to save some coin where i can

I put XYZ coilovers in the front of my AU and run compressed SSLs in the rear and I'm quite happy with the XYZs. Car rides good, plan to coilover the rear too

I want the option of performance too. I read on an EVO and WRX forum last night that people were happy with them, just wondering if itd be the same with a much heavier car

adjustable coilovers are not going to change the comfort level of the spring/damper combination. wind them up and the car will be tall and stiff, wind then down and youll be low and stiff. the adjustable damper will allow a taught or loose control of the stiff spring.
Unless you maintain standard weight springs then whats the point as your 'performance' wont really increase. Plus winding the front up and down on the ute wont really look right or work well. Good dampers at both ends is what you should be aiming for especially in the ute as its a compromise in handling alrady, and needs all the help it can get. JP |

i guess the best compromise. Id prefer looks or comfort as long as it can handle a deep corner everny now and again

Not just for show but I got them for the handling benefits too and the XYZs corner crazy, with my old king springs and short shocks it definately didn't handle near as good as what it does now

Very interested to see how this goes if you decide to use this package. Doesn't seem like a bad price

I had bilsteins in the front of my AU and loved them. I also had larger sway bars front and rear (sedan) and the car really did handle like it was on rails. Even when I upgraded to 19s I still found the ride really comfortable.. Can't help you with the rears though, I've jacked my wagon up and added an extra leaf, not lowered it :P
