First of all Mods if this is a problem please remove.
Was on facebook today reading the comments on the Ford Australia thread. And one guy said that they shouldn`t call themselves Ford Australia once they stop making the Terry and the Falcon as they will just be an importer. I know we do design work for other regions but is there some truth in what he said. Would it benefit Ford to drop the Australia and be viewed like Mazda, Nissan or other imports. This is not a slanging thread, please think about your post`s rationally.

What, like Sony Australia, Apple Australia etc?
I wonder how many products those companies make here? Zero. No difference. They are still Ford Australia.

They are the Australian arm of Ford, who also happen to employ ~1000 Australian engineers in their Australian R&D centre. They are Ford Australia.

Given we have Mazda Australia and they do zero engineering here, I'd say yes....

Why is every second thread around here sticking the boot into Ford. This decision was a long time coming, if you don't like it, move on!

In terms of a good old fashioned rant however...Ford has been viewed as American (unlike the true blue fair dinkum Strayan rival Holden) by the public and media for so long...what does it matter what they call themselves? |

They are legally called Ford Australia with the ATO & ASIC (just to name a few). So yes, they should be called Ford Australia because that is who they legally are & trading under in Australia!! Actually, technically they are most likely called Ford Australia Ltd
Also, Mazda is Mazda Australia & Nissan is Nissan Australia. They all have Australian trading names. |

The answer is there would be no benefit to drop "Australia" from Ford Australia. Post no. 3 says it all.

Just some ideas for future threads for those who are wondering:
"Should Ford move out of Melbourne cos they sacked everybody" "Should Ford have to pay back all the money the govt gave them" "Should we all buy Holdens to teach Ford a lesson"

I find it funny how people assume things like that!! the Thailand comment made me laugh thou!! in case of the cars themselves they will no longer be Australian (obviously) hence why I enjoyed the Thailand comment. ford will still have its dealerships here and you'll still be able too get parts through the Australian dealerships. there still keeping there engineers and designers here aren't they?? so yes ford Australia still exist and still will be after October 2016. they just wont make cars here anymore

they will be called the former company, formerly known as ford - the trolls will boycott them and they will never sell another car again
and the said trolls will be so happy that so many more people will be out of a job, all because they are protesting that people have lost jobs |

Right, so lifetime Ford lovers who are gutted by this decision are “trolls” Whereas people like you who don’t care because you hate Australian Fords, are the heroes? God save us. So maybe we should employ your magical formula whereby apparently buying imported crap creates more jobs? Is that because they’re built like **** so we employ more panel beaters to fix them? Maybe you should tell Abbott about your wonderful plan, I'm sure he’ll be all ears.

They will still be called Ford Australia simply because that is their trading name as the Australian division of Ford. This has been stated a number of times but people don't seem to understand or agree for some reason.

The rate of warranty repairs on the imported 'crap' is much lower than the local product... Don't take this as me hating Australian Fords - I absolutely love the Falcon, I've owned several and they are great vehicles. But to label the imported products as crap is a touch ignorant. |

Of course they should...1200 people losing their jobs in the manufacturing section is sad, but how many more thousands are employed in dealerships and other parts of the business around the country?
1200 workers going is tragic, but it doesn't mean the entire business will suddenly become "not Australian"... |

Those 1200 workers got over 3 years notice.
I am an hourly paid worker-if my company gave me over 3 years notice of job loss I would consider that very very fair. Ford Australia will live on. |

I wouldn't mind Ford One to be honest, like it or not this is Fords future.

If you want to pay any employees in Australia, then you need a legal entity to pay them from.
Although it has been announced that manufacturing will cease in Oct 2016 and that is a tradgedy. There are still all of the engineering and support staff that need to get paid from a legal entity in Australia. That Entity is Ford Australia pty ltd. They are not named Ford Manufacturing of Australia, just Ford Australia and they will still employ >1000 staff. |

I don't see a need for them to change their name - but if they did then I say change it to Barry.
