Question for TDCi Owners

Hi all,

I'm currently on leave and am driving the car a lot more than normal.

I have an annoying squeal/squeak/whistle/high-pitched harmonic vibration that occurs at pretty close dead-on 2,000 rpm in all the higher gears. It's not that loud, you can only hear it regularly when the radio is off.

It only lasts for a second or so when the car is being driven normally (i.e. you pass through 2,000 rpm in the process of changing gears) and nothing else seems to be wrong with the car. Nothing before 2,000 rpm, nothing over approx 2,100 rpm.

First-third gear seem to not exhibit any noise at all.

Not a major issue, it just pees me off .

2010 (first rego May 2011) TDCi 6-sp Manual if it makes any difference, car has done approx 21,700km.

Any ideas?

No such issue with mine, 6sp manual 2010 LV TDCI 6sp manual.

Mine makes a lot of other noises though, I think my seat/dash or the clutch pedal is making clicking noises, particularily on 2nd to 3rd shift, it'll do it.

Hi Mick,

You could have the same issue I had:

The metal air conditioner hoses are ridiculously close to the turbo intake pipe which can cause them to vibrate and touch each other, creating the sort of sound you're describing at the right RPM. It's quite a pain to get to, I sort of bent them out of the way a bit but it still happens sometimes.

Sound like something it could be?

That could be it, perversely it didn't do it today and funny enough it was damn cold and the air con was off.

On an unrelated note, have I missed summer? Single digits last night, 11 degrees out there at the moment. Rain/wind and alas my partner is menopausal so she still wants the fan on in the bedroom...

To get to the aforementioned pipes I had to take the battery out as it is right behind the whole engine (the least accessible place) and I'm pretty sure you might need to take the airbox out as well.
