They used the same headline on the front page of the Herald Sun, with the billion dollar funding going back over 12 years. What a joke. Should Ford pay back funding from over a decade ago you idiot journos.

Just plain stupid thing to say.

I'll bet that clown Dowling has been walking around with a massive hard on ever since the announcement, he would be loving it.

yet Holden got 2.17 billion but if they stopped local production I doubt it would be so controversial.

No wonder the public is so negative when you have this knob writing dribble such as he does.

Do they ever mention the co-investment from the manufacturers?

Do they really think the government would just give this sort of money away for free if it is not a better proposition for the taxpayer?

Do they remember that these companies pay tax?

Do they remember their employees pay income tax as well as a million other taxes that are part of living and working in Australia?

Funnily enough those who whinge the most about taxpayer money pay next to nothing or at all.

argh, this is part of the reason Ford Aus had gone under. The media are a bunch of flogs, and Josh Dowling should go and crawl into a hole and never come out.

I'm really angry at this right now, Australian media is the biggest joke out

Priceless, but he would never know the difference. How long before he comes out and says that we should give more to Holden?. I know someone that works at the proving ground and he says this is the last commodore.

The Herald Sun would be one paper I would be happy to see go under. When I saw that headline I felt like taking the pile of papers out side the newsagents and burning them.

I can see him running "Ford Local Production is Coming Back" stories to try to keep himself in a job.

was reported some time back that commodore production is likely to end 2017, which would be about right for VF being the last iteration.

according to holden, local production on 2 lines will continue until at least 2022, but i've never believed most of what they say and i'm not about to start now.

if mike devereaux said 'trust me', would you?

Don't be so sure about that, Holden has been getting flack too, double the government assistance yet still making losses.

I am so over this political based rhetoric and mean spirited attack on protection of our auto industry,
if we stay on this path we will offer our youth and next generation few opportunities outside the hospitality and fast food industry.

Maybe that's what the privileged few and members of elitist press want, vast underclass of dependent unskilled workers...

When locally made cars disappear, perhaps local motoring journalists will also be replaced by imports as well?

Sounds inevitable, really.

What was Fords turn over throughout the last 12 years? How much tax did they pay? How much GST was earnt through this time? How much taxes were paid buy the employees? Without knowing I am sure the government had a very decent return for investment. Was this mentioned?

Ford mentioned that for every dollar they recieved they pumped 6 dollars back into the economy, so if thats true the government have come way out in front.

Anyone who complains about this is a **********.

Don't even go there (you forgot payroll, carbon, company, and possibly many other indirect taxes which they pump into the state).

Any government contributions to the Blue Oval hardly need to be justified.

Every one of the 15 or so car producing nations (which can produce a car from design to construction) receive the same if not more in government contributions. And they recieve much more in tarriff protection and such.

Every car producing nation is supported by their government, it's absolutely necessary for them to do so.

Our sip-a-latte society wants otherwise, and buys elsewhere. Straight to their own country's demise.

Why?

Do not give him any recognition.

He is not worth even talking about.

You all do realise that the sole purpose of any of these "high profile" media tarts is to be talked about.
That is why he and others like him constantly stir up trouble.

Would anyone watch ACA or JERRY JERRY JERRY if it was not full of crap?

The worst thing you can do to him is ignore everything he writes.......

I also believe Australia pays the lowest to support the Automotive industry @ $18 per head annually compared to some countries at $100 plus. Every other county also has some form of tax/tarrif on imported vehicles, some at 50% plus. Last i checked Australia was at 5% if not less. Free trade my ***...

I'm no mathematician, but isn't the extra that Holden got nearly double what Ford's loss was over five years?
Maybe if we'd invested in ford as we had holden, and then actually advertised Falcon (I don't watch a lot of TV, but when I do, I see a lot of Focus ads), perhaps the situation would be different.

But then I like wearing tin foil hats and coming up with theories that this was constructed to happen by Ford US

reading that article in one paragraph they mention the beginning of the death of the Australian car industry, it amuses me that they portray this is only just starting now( i bloody larf ),
our car industry has been heading for the grave yard for years and pollies did Nothing about it except cry a few crocodile tears and make some hand outs in front of tv cameras and make grand statements that car makers need to be more efficient, in fact i would say they have actively encouraged the death of it with their policies, shame shame shame.
