by Paul McCamley Promoter of Muscle Car shootout .... Just got my latest copy of Aus Muscle Car mag and what a caning this guy has given Falcon Gt owners of Qld (I assume) and also Ford itself for producing an inferior car to the Monaro and he says he is a 20 year member of the Falcon GT owners club!! An unbelievable read and statement from someone that should know the real facts rather than just "pop off" He's obviously really p...ed at the GT guys for not having a go but is over the top

Are we talking about old classic GTs or the plastic-fantastic new ones?

I am always hearing how the 'GT" owners club comlains about just about everything. Real hard people to please. Trouble is I feel that many of them are older and still living in the 70s.
I the last contact I had with some of the members was how much the botched about a prvate collection of muscles cars they visited was all dirty and not in pristine condition! The bloke that owned the collection got some dealer plates just so he could choose what model of GT, or Torana, or Monaro, or SS or Capri, Cortina, Escort, Valiant he wanted to drive that day. None of this don't touch it you can't drive it crap! |

So according to him if you buy a BAGT you MUST take it to a track and thrash it.....
He's made a fool of himself in that letter.. Maybe the BAGT owners have more brains than to trash their cars on a track?

What is it with some people and Ford car clubs in QLD? They seriously have many, MANY attitude problems, and despite what they think, they don't know better than Ford, FPV, Tickford, and everyone else apart from themselves.
It truly astonishes me how they can simply not get along with other Ford fans. I pity their poor families!

Same with insurance, you'll find there is a clause prohibiting motorsport activity which voids your insurance too. You'd need to take out a motorsport cover note to be covered by insurance..

that sucks, the GT was born on the race track, having a perfomance car that you cant unleash safly on the track dosent make much sense to me.

The track day is different because its closely supervised by FPV and would probably be sanctioned as an approved event for insurance id imagine. There is NO warrantee on motorcross bikes at all FULL STOP!... Remember its "at their descretion"...

EDIT: btw im not trying to argue with you im just dumbfounded that a car company making performance vehicals voids their warrantee once you take it out on the track.

and now HSV has a track pack. Ohlins Suspension, Semi Slick Tyres and Comp Springs on the R8 Clubby.
but on the other hand, if you buy a 60,000 plus dollar car and dont feel the need to thrash it at every corner or race track then thats your business. what a ****er. and yes , some people need to realise its 2005 not 1970 !!! :evilsasmo |

Obviously it wasn't a cams sanctioned race meet, which basically means you can drive as fast or as slow as you like. The guys could have still taken their cars around the track, and drove them within their own comfort zone. But Jeez i wish i had of been their, a couple of sighting laps and then pedal to the metal for me. Cheers.

Does anyone know, particularly the QLD GT guys, if it was suppose to be an organised thing, HSV/Holden V FPV/Ford thrashing around for a few laps, cause by the way I read the article he is really cranky that the Holden boys turned up to play but the Ford boys didn't, giving him the opportunity to stick it into Ford.

I read the article and came away thinking "what a biggoted ****er"
First and foremost as previously mentioned "warranty" is voided and most likely your insurance as well at some of these events. Not everyone wants to thrash their GT around a race track. He also says Quote:Current BA Falcon GT's are a very poor imitation of the legendary Falcon GT's of the 60's and 70's. Current Falcon GT's and drivers are a bunch of wannabees: Un-Quote: Now how much of a head has he made of himself ? What a very narrow minded view of someone that should know better than to generalize "All BA GT owners" The only fast "legendary" factory GT's made were the Phase 1,2 & 3 and RPO83 anyway. The others were no faster than their oposition ie:HK 327 HT & HG 350's, E38 & E49 Chargers were quicker again. He probably hasnt been for a decent drive in a new GT, or had the pleasure of being able to wind one out to 250kph, brake safely and get good fuel economy all in total comfort. Something any old "stock" GT can never do. He has obviously forgotten what GT stands for...... "Grand Tourer" and that they do a mighty fine job. Mr McCamley needs to get his tiny brain out of the 60's and early 70's and get over it !

Guys ease up i was at the shootout in queensland i own the white xr falcon that dealt out a bit of victorian medicine. Firstly Mr Paul Mc Camley is a very passionate man that to his credit has stuck his neck out to get a huge and awsome weekend together for first time racers to long time punters .No cams SH1T or stand over tactics just good clean fun without the politics.Three of us drove to q/land and three flew up to have one of the best circuit days i have been to (leaves a few organisations for dead ).You could pick your grids and race all Fords or all Holdens or all Chargers a very relaxed atmosphere where common sense played a big part .I take my hat off to him and congratulate him on his and his teams efforts to stage such an event .I will be back for another hit out next year ,yes all the way from MELBOURNE. Paul was only trying to rev up the new GT owners, as there were a heap of old classics in the show n shine as well as belting it around the track I made a heap of new friend in a state which is very laid back aaaaaaaaaaa

It seems that if it was a rev up he pushed the wrong buttons ....
I wouldn't put my new GT around a track with people I didn't know.. not a warranty issue but if some clown wipes it out there is no recourse. |

GRNKPR, understand your point about him being passionate etc etc and putting on a good day, by the way, he wouldn't be doing it for the love of it either, I have had heaps of great days on the track, put on by some very good organisers, plenty of stoushes on the track, drunk heaps of p..s afterwards etc etc but I would never expect a promoter to bag a section of his potential market the way he has done. I've got to say that if I was thinking of going next year, and as you can see, I don't have the type of vehicle he is talking about, he can shove his weekend cause i can go to the Island for a tenth of the price, have heaps more track time and at a circuit that is next to none in the country, so he is way off the mark in his comments, IMHO.

I dont think Philip Island is $20 to race i have been to track days you have been to as well they have also been fun but when 10 new dunnydores roll up and no new GT s it a little one sided ,but this is taking the gloss of a fantastic weekend. Also to the cost of a cams lic does this go onto the tenth of that cost ypu were talking about ?????

huge difference between drag racing or hill climbing and taking it to a circuit track. I have no qualms dragging or hill climbing my XR8 but unless I trusted the guys I was with. the XR8 wouldn't go near the circuit.
The XA on the other hand..... |
