Default Hyundai I30 CRDI (Turbo diesel)

Hi,

I picked one of these up as a work car last week It is white with alloy wheels.
I drove it from Sydney to Tamworth and Tamworth to Dubbo so I put 700K in it in the first two trips.

I downgraded from a Forester. It used 13l/100 (unleaded) and to get to Sydney and back I had to visit the fuel station twice. It also lacked performance and suffered from body roll.

Observations to date are that the I30 has a fair bit of poke taking off, and getting >6l/100k is almost impossible. It has the same deceptive acceleration as the Golf TDI where the engine sounds lazy, but the torque is ramping up the speed quickly.

I am hoping it loosens up and starts to go even better. I had to get the auto as that is all that is on govt. contract.

Anyone had any experience with these? tips for break in, known problems to look for or at what point they have run in and the performance is not getting any better etc..? so far I have been varying the engine speed with mixed driving I have not babied it though, I have been driving it like I would drive any car.

Ah, nicely done turbotaxi. I would call it an upgrade from a forester, the i30's are awesome cars, my inlaws have one (tdi, manual, slx). As you say, having it chew more than 6L/100klms is impossible, they are freaks on the fuel. Just make sure you're doing full boost every day and it should be all good.
Can you up the boost on them?

I drove one for 6 months. They are a fantasmic car. My bro has the golf TDI, which is obviously pokier than the i30, but hyundai did really, really impress me with this car.

Also impressed me alot, am considering buying one next year. Am curious Turbotaxi - has yours got cruise control? I purposely hired one in Sydney in March when I headed up to Newcastle way, and that was the only option that it lacked imho.

Yep cruise - side air bags, alloys are all minimum fitment for our cars. Even though some slip through with wheel covers!

Is it an SLX, turbotaxi? If so, they're fairly well equipped.
The i30 is the first diesel car i've ever driven that i've liked

The GF has one and really likes it, made sure she got the diesel over the petrol version.
Zippy car to drive but i'm to used to driving petrol cars, I always try to rev it out like my EL without thinking.

Fit and finish seems to be quite good and plenty of interior space, 2 thumbs up from me!

They had an article in FastFours a while ago with some mods and ECU tuning, they got one to run a 14 second quarter mile.
