Default Is kings Cross officially retired?

Kings Cross has for a long time been the wildest place to party in Australia. Fuelled with anything you could ask for, dangerous place too. It was always the busiest place and party didnt stop until early hours of the next morning. Plenty of private partys after 6am when doors shut, open bars and crazy crazy times. Could never get a park, lines at every bar, buzzing street vibe. Hookers in every alley, crazy people every way you look. Awesome times

But then came the lockout laws 1.30am you cannot enter a licensed premises, 3am last drinks.. this basically just ended the party.. overnight

42 nightclubs and bars have now shut their doors, late night food outlets shut, every second door has a for lease sign on it. Noone goes there anymore, for the remaining establishments lucky if you can get a few dozen people in there. Tumbleweeds may as well blow through there of a night... its eery quiet.. you can park right on the main strip, even the police dont bother attending anymore.

Sure the violence has stopped but its because the people have all gone, dispursed, partygoers retired. Doesnt a city like sydney need a red light district? A wild side?

Kings Cross is retired, do we agree this action was excessive or appropriate?

I think harsher penalties for assault or injury alcohol related is necessary

I think though was needed at the time.

Needed? It shut down the whole area?

I think heavy penalties for punching someone would suffice.

Every other vibrant city in the world has a nightlife. Now sydney hasnt

I live in Perth, but have been to Kings Cross on weekend nights a few times.

I love it.

Park the hire car at one end and then walk up and down.

It's like walking through the middle of a Star Wars movie.

Cities do not need trouble spots like that anymore. There is nightlife everywhere these days, it does not need to be confined to one area and attract the trouble that it does.

Run criminals, throw in a plethora of bogans, drugs, violence and occassional death, anyone with half a brain could see the trajectory it was heading on. Fortitude Valley, Gold Coast Strip all heading in the same way. Each time I go to these places I feel like I should have a flack jacket on - I have got better things to do.

no different to any other popular Nightlife city.... its just had its day.

When I returned to the UK after 5 years away, the local hotspot was dead and everyone had moved onto the next big thing/city.

not had its day...

the lockout laws killed it.

The crowds in that area were ridiculous.

For 42 bars and clubs to close within 6 months...

lock out laws come about because some people can't behave themselves, so more accurate to say peoples behaviour killed it

Add to that the continual watering down of police powers which were there to keep people safe from trouble makers. Instead of allowing the cops to manage the small minority of trouble makers, ****ant weak politicians aided by a hopelessly out of touch judiciary have let the thugs take over.

Ask Thomas Kellys parents or the doctors and nurses at St. Vincents Hospital.

or the locals who had to endure vomiting and urinating on their doorsteps

or the police who dealt with the alcohol fueled behavior

Newtown's got plenty of places to eat and drink until late as has Parramatta and the city itself.

Or you can go to Panthers

I think it's great to see the infamous nightclub barons around KX lose business

Gee, so the poor homeless guy in the Cross you used to give crisps, beer and shoes as payment for watching your car at night must be hungry, sober, and shoeless now eh?

Maybe it all comes down to the fact attitudes have changed . Morally places like Kings Cross and Fortitude Valley haven't changed but the people that frequent them have . Whilst you always had to have your wits about you if you had a respectful attitude and half a brain you managed to steer clear of most bad outcomes . The problem is these days the participants have few manners to start with, put a few under their belt and they have none .
Getting a flogging in the old days from bouncer is nothing to being glassed by some lowlife piece of drug addicted **** that is the predominant species in these areas nowadays . You can't reason with them so it's no holes barred .
The poor buggers passing away in one punch situations are 9 times out of 10 king hit from behind, something you would have been considered a DOG doing in the past .
So Hulk don't feel so bad you can't hang out cruising and impressing the bad people at the moment 31 ****holes will surface somewhere else no doubt .

question: why are so many people now victims of "the 1 punch" mentality? Surely of years gone by this crude method of fighting was around, but why in society in this day and age does it seem so common?

Cause the clowns these days havent got the balls to go toe to toe. I got king hit not that long ago by your average piece of ****, I was having a 'discussion' with one of his mates that was never going to become violent but this hero thought it'd be cool to blindside me with one to the side of the head. They looked a bit shocked when I didn't go down.

It certainly is at the moment.

The mining boom is most definitely over.

You can't drive through Northbridge at any time on a weekend night - it's constantly gridlocked with vacant taxis.
