Lending more to the legal side what is the best way to get TV shows etc at respectable download rates. The web is full of options but they all sound similar to limewire type setups.
I'm happy to pay a bit for them but i want better than a lottery where your download is likley to take days at 1-3 kb per second. I have a fast connection and 15gig a month to play with and want to use it. Thanks for any feedback!

There has been threads on this before, bittorrent is your saviour.
Make sure you use a decent program like Azureus or Bitcomet, and set up your ports using a site such as www.portforward.com Once you have understood what torrents are, sites such as www.torrentspy.com www.mininova.org www.isohunt.com will provide you with the suitable links for torrent files. I suggest you take 10 minutes on google to learn what torrents are and how to use them before you jump right in.

i dont like where this thread is going but be careful what you say in public
anyways there are a few sites which offer live streaming of TV/cable/austar but you gotta pay...sometimes some sites of the owners of a show offer free downloads of eps...and sometimes there are archives of tv shows just got to look and another thing do you tape TV? do you burn dvds from video ezy/civic/2000? do you record music from live streaming? then explain what is the difference if you tape something and hand it to your friends family to enjoy on tape/dvd. and the same thing but on a different media lets say HDD/cd/dvd and let over people download it? the answer there is no difference just recording and putting over the net is classified as piracy (correct if im wrong) if you ask me use the torrents its there even George W Bush (www.bushtorrent.com or soemthing like that) has his own torrent site so download my friend download

As I said i'm happy to pay for what i get and prefer a legal option. I'm after a quality solution. However if the media that cry foul of piracy really want to kill it off they really need to take the technology available and use it. Too much is said about the whole piracy thing and not enough positive steps taken to make it less worthwhile to pirate. Halve the price and at least double the sales wouldn't you? Add to that the lower rate of priracy and eveyones happier. What happens if you cut the costs by.... 80% i wonder. Yes i'm sure Blockbuster video will be upset until they get thier online business running up to speed but hey.
The bottom line is that if it can be downloaded for $2 in high quality at high speed why would people pirate it. I'm sure there's plenty of people cheap enough to use other options with lower quality but as things are there are many many more than is necissary if the producers and thier beneficiaries looked at things on a more...global scale. If bandwidth wasn't such an expesive item... wait it's not really anything is it. I mean there is technology there to pay for but theres also way too many stops to add profit margins before it gets to consumers. Strictly speaking taping TV at all is a breach of copyright yet Sony still make VCRs and DVDR recorders don't they!?!

Whos saying anything about lower quality? It is all available in hi def in most cases. I know someone who downloads the latest series in hi def, these are eps that are not even shown here yet. Which makes the fight against piracy all the harder.
I dont think halving the price is going to stop piracy or really reduce it much at all. People who pirate will do so anyway as they get something for nothing, which is cheaper than paying even half price. There is no way piracy will ever be stopped. Anything that can be engineered can be un engineered so any protection or media made can be fixed/modded. It would be an incredible challenge for software and movie/music companies to combat.

What speeds can you expect from this?
I did try a torrent program last night. i was getting a pretty slow download 2-5kbs. Downloader was Bittorrent. If it's generally that slow whats the advantage over Limewire?
