Default Save our Free to Air T.V Sports.

Go to the following link to help keep our sports on free to air t.v.
www.savemysport.com.au
This effect all sports that are viewed on free to air t.v. They have links off to your local member so fell free to let them know that you support your sports to be on free to air t.v.

Saw the ad on ten during bathurst coverage and will definately be giving my opinion.

I think a quick em to Senator Paul Neville who's currently fighting against this sort of thing...i.e monoply control..will be in order.

Would agree with this proposal if the FTA channels showed sport live when they bought rights to it but they don't. FTA channels shouldn't be allowed to bid if they don't plan on televising the event live. Pay TV will win this one eventually and it will be sad to see but the FTA stations deserve it, too many sports are not shown live.

I fully support the campaign " Save my Sport" so iconic Australian sporting events are available on free to Air TV. Also that they are telecast live in cases such as Melbourne Cup, AFL g/f etc. Sent an email to my local member Kate Ellis to express my views via website.

This is a trickey topic, as I strongly agree that all Australians should be able to watch major sporting events free. BUT, channels such as the high and mighty channel 10 frequently abuse this right, as shown by the poor coverage given to Formula One. Im sure alot of people on this forum would love to see live qualifying and racing on Fox Sports, as opposed to waiting for the Suzuka race to start at 11:00 pm.

When they present these ads they miss out one minor detail and that is that not every one in australia get channel 10, lots of places in the country can only receive pay tv so that is there only chance at watching the football, so i say give them at least two games and most of the replays that way almost every one wins.

Just wait until the end of the Bathurst coverage tomorrow to see how many people are happy with the effort put in by the FTA stations...

Forgot not everywhere gets all FTA stations. I remember tales of an Austar rep taking a trip through north Eastern Victoria where there lucky to get ABC and he couldn't sell his product quick enough. Guys I work with that have come from Darwin get Foxtel cause they say the TV there is crap, an Australian capital city and they don't get 7, 9 & 10. think they get 7 and a mix of 9&10. The government should be looking into making these FTA guys televise nationwide or forcing them onto foxtel satelite and subsidising the fee for peeple in remote areas that don't get a full FTA option.

Guess little Johnny was scared of Mr Packer, what about Eddie???? so much potential for more sport to be on TV live but FTA stations keep on buying the rights, cause they're the only ones aloud to and then telecast it late if at all!!!!

Its a sham, I hate paying for Fox, but I'd rather pay and watch sport live than tape it or sit up to the wee hours to watch it. Plus you get the bonus of alot of other channels that have quality content, not just the same crappy reality TV rehashed again and again.

Why should we be forced to pay to watch these events? If they are serious with this then they better come up with a subsidy for it because I can think of plenty better ways to spend 60 or 70 a month than friggin Austar etc. See the poll on there is 94% against it, pollies will love those figures, real vote puller this proposition.

Thats right. Just look at the rugby codes in melbourne. Unless you have pay tv, you won't see any games.
FTA stations that have the rights to show a sporting event live, should. Or be forced to give it away for free.

I love watching the friday night football on a one hour delay, I totally support the FTA channels having the rights to every single sporting event even if they aint goin to show them. Losing the end of a sporting telecast for a gameshow or a news report aint a bad thing is it?

Gee, let me think, would i like to pay for sport i currently see on fta tv. Of course I'm going to say no. If they were going to make it democratic and fair, heaven forbid, they should word the question so people can have a think about it. Give me the option to express my opinion, not be so narrow minded. But then I guess this is being run by the FTA stations themselves, so of course they are going to make it sound like a bad thing that they lose the oprion to bid if they aren't going to televise it.

I'm not suggesting we should be forced to pay to watch live sport, just that FTA stations should be forced to show it live if they buy the rights to the event. They've been hiding behind this legislation too long.

FTA stations abuse sport here. Channel 10 is a classic one half the time when you think it's a Saturday game live it isn't and you know that Saturday afternoon is never live, Why bother ? You get someone like Foxtel who buys games and shows them live with extra features. Now they are gone and there goes a choice of viewing games when you want to.
Last years ashes lucky SBS got into it cause no other FTA channel gave a ****.
Few weeks back i was watching the wallabies play the spring box live on foxtel, Flick to ch7 and it's 30min delay. Thought the save our free to air ad said when pay TV gets a sport they lock it in to never be shown anywhere on FTA ?.

Those in the situation you describe are in the best position for football, If referring to either Rugby League or AFL. Pretty much ALL NRL games are televised and AFL has an entire dedicated channel, so this viewpoint is kind of mute really.

I heard a news item the other day that the 7/Prime network has won the bidding war for V8 Supercar television coverage from 2007.....god help us. This had better be a commitment, not just a filler in between having something "more important to air" like last time they had the broadcast rights.

stuff FTA TV..

I pay for Fox and would like to get my dollars worth... LIVE pay TV sport telecasts are comercial free.. Pay TV have (imho) better commentators.. The digi Fox has active features that FTA is too tight to give to the masses, inturn I miss out on the technology available.. FTA delay sport even if they have the rights (sole or otherwise) so you have to live under a rock to not find the out the result.. If I want a result I will google it to decide if it is worth watching a delayed telecast.. I couldn't care if FTA turn around and re-sell their rights to pay TV and let Fox/Austar then telecast events LIVE, so long as I can sit down and enjoy a game, race or fight in real time.

It is similiar to the cable vs dial-up debate.. PAy TV is the way of the future so keep up or miss out imho :P

I think it is important to point out here the AFL had its own channel that has now gone !!
Sport on FTA is all well and good but why buy the rights like channel 7 did with soccer and never show the games !!
Fishing is a sport I enjoy both doing and watching on the tv must admit I get spoiled for choice on FOX even watched fly fishing in South America yesterday, free to air seem to drop fishing shows all the time !
And the most important (with the exception of footy AFL/SANFL)would be sports entertainment without pay tv that would never get shown in Australia !!

But lets all not forget that there is no FTA tv the adds pay for the shows your watching out:

Well wouldn't have to do this if the FTA stations would show a lot of the sports live. If it isn't AFL then it isn't worth it (their attitude). For example, the Japanese GP, very important race this year yet channel 10 will show it at 11pm tonight. Yes i can understand bathurst taking prefernece but their news, meercat thing and idol seem to take preference. So if they want me to take them seriously they have to look at putting together a realistic schedule. At least with pay tv there is a big chance we're going to get some live events. Maybe SBS or channel 2 should put their hand up for F1.

The only sports i watch is motor sports but having to get some form of pay tv in order to watch it is just not right, not so much because you have to pay but because i can't get any pay tv other than sattelite in my area and im sure my folks don't want a sattelite dish hanging off their roof.

free to air are shixxing in their own pond...just like my pet ducks. far too many commercials, or half a commercial, far too much self promotion. I got sick of trying to watch it. I either tape it and fast forward through the interuptions, or say stuff it I've got foxtel!
If free to air did a better job there would be more viewers. they need to think how they balance paid advertising and viewer satisfaction.

I've always been ****ed off at the FTA stations abusing the rights. I recall a few years back when the FTA stations bitched about fox wanting exclusive rights to basketball. They got em, and guess how many games FTA stations show? thats right ZERO. They used to show one NBA game a week at some bizarre hour, but it was usually a shoddy game between 2 b grade teams.

The FTA stations stance sounds good in theory, but there definately needs to be a *use it or lose it* clause in there somewhere. If they arent going to show things live, let someone else.

The problem is pretty much the target audience.

Air head trendies who would watch Big Brother 24 hours a day if it was available. Then there are the latest crop (or should that be crap) of bullshit shows revolving around training men like dogs, shoving fashion down our throat, telling us how to eat and live better (like they haven't been for the last 10 years), watching some lazy bastard lose weight, and a plethora of 30 minute **** shows meant to delay anything worthwhile in the fear that worthwhile TV programs may actually find an audience (forcing the networks to acknowledge that there are viewers with an IQ higher than their shoe size).

At least with pay TV you have the option to watch some educational shows and don't have to put up with the rehashed reality TV that is flooding the FTA market at the moment. I would gladly watch FTA TV more if they had a decent line up of shows but at the moment it is less than satisfactory.

I didn't vote but I sent an email asking why there question was so biased and if they were interested in public opinion they should reword the question to find out how many people would like to see FTA stations show events live when they have the rights to do so. They've hidden behind this legislation too long.

There will always be FTA. Can you imagine the Supercheap Auto 1000 only on Foxel/Austar? What would be the point?

Anyone who has enough money to pay for Foxtel/Austar would not be seen dead in Supercheap, the ricers emporium so what would be the poit of their sponsorship. /scarcasm

More simply put:
Sporting events have sponsors.
Those sponsors wish to advertise their products which is why they spend bazillions sponsoring.
If the audience is restricted then the valuse of the sponsorship is diluted and sponsors will withdraw.
The events will fail due to lack of funds.

Putting it even more into simple terms. The only reason why Holden & Ford play V8 supercars is to sell more cars. So if no ones sees the races then Holden & Ford will withdraw.

On the other hand I agree that ALL reality shows should be on pay tv only.......

There's usually 3 sides to every argument.
The Free to air argument is http://www.savemysport.com.au/
The Pay TV argument is http://www.fairgosport.com.au/
The third side is generally the 'true side'.
There are for and against arguments on BOTH sides. There is a lot of sports that I'd like to see on tele, that simply are not profitable for FTA to decide to run with.
At the end of the day I'd like to be able to watch the sports I want to see, WHEN & HOW I want to see it. With the exception of the State of Origin Rugby League & the V8 supercar series, I rarely if ever watch FTA tele for sport as they do not provide coverage I consider worthy of watching.
