The EB 5.0 is very asthmatic when in stock form (but will still hold its own). It's a great little motor when woken up however, but when it comes to bang-for-buck, modding the six is better value.

Unlike the six, they don't have head gasket issues, but can have cooling/cooling system issues if not looked after properly. They also have a long life, so don't be put off by motors with more than 200,000kms. Mine has 335,000kms (original motor & auto) and is beginning to experience blow-by, but it's nowhere near LS1-spec when it comes to oil consumption.

Look for any fluid leaks, be they oil or otherwise. Rubber under the guards, and tyre condition will give an indication of the car's recent history ;)

If the car is clean, check inside the doors to check whether its got grime buildup. Someone who generally keeps their car clean tends to clean in these spots too.

The manual is more lively than the auto, but you're not doomed if it's an auto. Diff gears + shift kit will fix this! ;) ;)

You should also post in the Windsor section regarding specific wheezer issues.

Also CHECK* the firewall where the cable if manual goes thru as they have ALOT of issues with the firewall cracking and the cable pulling thru.
Also take a torch with you!!! check out where the clutch pedal pivots as this is also known to be a weakspot.
that mainly it mate.
Those are the main 2 things to look for, if they arent apparent it would be worth buying.

yeah ill defineantly be taking it for a drive im only on my ls so he might dispute me driving it but he seems like a decent guy so shouldnt have to much of a drama... i doubt he will go through the trouble of getting a rwc as he said he dosent use it and just wants to get rid of it... if anything the max im looking at is 1g for roadworthy... but then again it could cost a hell of a lot less....

The first thing I would do before I bought it - take it to a mechanic! You can get them to go over the car and see if there are any issues you hadn't previously noticed. It'll cost a bit, but it's better knowing IMO.

Good luck with it all!

That mechanic's inspection might cost $50-$150 depending where you go, but it is WELL worth it as it will put your mind at ease regarding what the car's condition *truly* is. Listen to Pink Sock Girl :
