Default Good mechanic around Clayton/Oakleigh

Well, my car is starting to drive me insane. It has just developed a major oil leak. I put in a litre of engine oil yesterday, and it seems to go down fairly quickly. It's dumping it all onto the exhaust so it stinks real bad and creates a lot of smoke. Not great. So I'm wondering, does anyone from around Clayton / Oakleigh suggest any good mechanics? I usually take my car to a mechanic at Gippsland, but I won't be back there for a while. Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

It's hard to tell. I had a good look and the main sources of oil are down the front of the rocker cover and engine block, underneath the sump and the crossmember, and on the exhaust. Any ideas?

That might certainly be an option, depending on whether Jason can help out or not. That place would be fairly close by, as I live down Centre Rd. Thanks for the info.

knowing your car dezza you probably still have the cool cork rocker cover gasket.... just buy a new 1 peice rubber one clean up all the old oil/silicone on the surface area and put it on. then degrease the whole engine bay. hopefully that gets rid of the problem.

I haven't replaced the gasket in the time I've owned the car, so that may be it. I don't know what it has in it. Is there any special tricks to checking or replacing the rocker cover gasket? My range of tools is limited, and I don't want to make the car any worse than what it is.

It's disappointing, I was actually starting to plan for a few mods! Now I need to fix an oil leak and replace a steering rack (which I keep putting off). There goes my money! :( . Also, I don't know why I bother degreasing my engine. I get it looking spotless, so then it decides to start leaking oil. :

Good point. I am just annoyed that I put in so much time and effort only to have it look like what it did in the first place.

Update - I booked the car into Metz Automotive for Thursday. They reckon if they clean it all up, and leave it running on the hoist for 10/15 minutes, they will be able to trace the leak. While they are at it, they are going to try and sort out my squealing brakes and squeaky suspension.

I have plenty of pad, so it's not that... and I have saved some cash up. I would have loved to spend it on mods, but obviously my car doesn't want to be modded. Everytime I build some cash up to mod the thing, something seems to break on the old girl.

Latest update. The brakes and suspension were minor, but the oil leak has turned out to be major. It's the dreaded head gasket! I knew it was coming, but I was expecting to see water mixing with oil and all that. After cleaning up the engine, it was easy enough to trace the leak. There was a constant drip. They basically said that there is an oil pocket or something beneath the head gasket, and that has cracked (I'm not technical enough - others may know what I'm talking about). I've been quoted just over $500 to replace it so I'm leaving the car in there tomorrow. They say it should be done by tomorrow night. Oh well, back to being poor.
