Ouch, another reason to have insurance. I doubt that someone who drives a Ferrari would not have it though.

It's not a Testa Rossa. Police reported it had a mechanical failure and the throttle jammed open.

The car is, from what I can make out (and this time its not a mistake... lol - edited this post twice)...

a Ferrari Mondial T.

3.4litre DOHC 32-valve V8, 224kW @ 7200rpm, 321Nm @ 4200rpm. 7400rpm redline. Same engine as the later F348.

Likely story!! How come when you crash a Ferrari at high speed it's a technical failure but when you crash a normal car at any speed it's an "excessive speed" crash?

Because it was on a central city carpark rooftop!?

Anyone wanting to speed in such a location is REALLY stupid. :MrT_anim:

for the throttle to jam open it must have been fully open to begin with, sounds like a bit of "playing" was going on

I don't think it is Steffo. The side scoops in the photo above are different to the wreck. On the wreck, the scoops are square at the back, not tapered. Also the number of fins in the scoop is different... Unless it has been customised??

'67 i'm with you on that one... also the front windscreen rake is different (though accident could have affected it).

Rear bumber and rear wheel arch is different too. Rear wheel arch flaring as well..

I think that it is a Mondial. They were in production for a fair time (started out with a smaller engine) and had a few changes in that time. Initially based on a streched 302/328 frame and always thought of as a bit soft.

The only other 2+2 mid-engined Ferrari that I know of is the Bertone desined Dino

Hope the owner was a friend doing this wedding gig for free? As every man and his dog has seen this on the TV, I'm sure insurance companies, police and TAC will be VERY interested in what the real situation was ... hiring a vehicle without appropriate doco is very serious offence and great insurance loophop meez thinks??

The only other 2+2 mid-engined Ferrari that I know of is the Bertone designed Dino GT4

They were always thought of as a bit "soft" (like the 400i and 365GTC 2+2) which is why they cost less $ than other Ferraris. That and the 2+2 aspect means that they are used a bit by wedding hire car companies.

It is a Ferrari Mondial.

The Mondial had been in production from 1981 to 1993 or 1994. The wheels on the wreck are clearly aftermarket.

The picture I posted was of a 1989 Mondial T... which was the last variant of the Mondial produced. In the early 90s there may have been subtle changes to the body, but it is indeed the car pictured in wreckage photo.

Throttle jammed open…. Yeah, with the help of his foot. What a crock of s**t. The bloke was giving it a rev and stuffed up. Why can’t people just admit when they stuff up instead of always finding some bulls**t excuse.

Anyway, the Mondial is the poor mans Ferrari. Stick an outboard motor on the back, don’t forget your life jackets and hit the bay for some fishing, the bloody things look like an old tinny with a windscreen.

Anyone pick the resemblance?

Cheers, Danny

I don't know how you could call a Mondial T a "poor man's" Ferrari... $252,911 RRP in 1990 and the same 224kW 3.4litre V8 as the F348tb.
