Well this just goes to show how much things have changed in the Ozzie auto landscape, Im making a threasd about bloody SUV's.
But....Saw the specs on the Fortuner this morning and saw the price, Everest's life will be made a little bit tougher? Ranger might be able to command a premium because tradies get some tax love with commercial vehicles. I want to love the Everest but Im looking forward to a comparison between these two. http://www.carsales.com.au/editorial...at-47990-54649 For me, I dont care about the nitty griity as such, requirement is 7 seats, enough space, decent fuel economy and ability to go off the beaten track; but I dont intend to climb Uluru. Toyota has had a gap between the Kluger and Prado which I believe forced many to go Prado based on diesel requirement alone.

I would have to check the specs but I dont think ride height is great on the Tez compare to the ute based SUV's. But yes its road manners are superior.

I've gotten my Falcons in places were people needed jacked up vehicles apparently. My point is the Fortuner isn't a proper 4x4. But I will give Toyota credit that you can get the thing in manual for the top spec...something Ford is crap with. Then again you get this with the Fortuner as well which is not good.

Hmm I saw that, the space doesnt seem as big as the Everest behind the third row?
I believe those seats can be removed all together? Suits me better actually as we are a family of 6. Another big wni for these type of cars are vents in the very back aswell.

As opposed to no space in the Toyota. To me 7 seat SUV's aren't all that great as there is some compromise. The Ford SUV's have done well but for full time 7 setas time to get a people mover.

Fortuna looks like a dog compared to the Everest, especially the base model.
Everest will drive better, have better tech etc too.

I do see the Fortuner (its a rubbish name for a car) selling well. If there was a GXL with leather and Sat nav option I would be very tempted in a few years. The fact that it has a manual would even make me talk to douche Toyota salesman.

You can remove only one seat if you want or both, they don't get in the way of vision, and they allow more floor space compared to permanent fold into the floor seats

but foremost I think it will eat into Prado sales, as many don't need a true 4WD

IT may. But it might get people who won't pay Prado money for the car. Toyota badged SUV....7 seats....but cheaper. It will be interesting once sales stabilize to see.

Ladder frame
4WD Manual Live Axle (rear) Diff Lock 225mm ground clearance (more than the Prado) It's as much of a 4x4 as 99% of people want now. You can still go for your 70 Series LC and Defenders if you need solid axles front and rear, but that's really the only difference (equipment wise).

Just been having a look at all the Fortuner pics and specs and one thing they have done is give the factory specs a look of the 'customising' that goes on after initial purchase - clever stuff. The blue base model with black steelies evokes my old cruisers, multiple trim colours some of which evoke some 80's stuff, blackout mags on black top model with bullbar. Sub 48K start price

After visiting the states recently i can tell you the fortuner is very popular there with some killer looking examples getting about that have a real trophy truck appeal to them. They look excellent with the usual suspension, rims, and bars mods most people do. The Toyota Tacoma also look great and in my opinion far better looking than the horrid new hilux Toyota has given us.

They have a forerunner in the US, which is what we used to know as the Hulux surf.
Interestingly I don't think they even sell Hilux in the US.. Fortuner is popular throughout Asia

Tacoma is bigger than Hilux. I have seen a new one. Very bland design though, looks like its 10 years old but its a current model. They have a V6.

Toyota Sequoia also seamed pretty popular, for times when the Land Cruiser 200 just isn't big enough. |

So I read up on them
What I can gather they are Petrol only Hilux's with an American grill, softer suspension and somehow can take a bigger payload. oh and apparently they don't last as long.. the locals refer to them as Tacos.

I have never read so much marketing fluff/spam from Toyota's marketing crew as I just read in that article. Worst part is, the whitegoods brigade will swallow it.

Ford are now doing Ambiente at $56,990 drive away and Trend 62,990 drive away which improves the value a tad.
