Default Best Chip For Au2

i"m planning on putting a chip in my au2, I've heard some bad reps. from mates in regards to CHIPTOURQUE (or SH*T TOURQUE, as he put it), as well POWER CHIP. The UNI CHIP I haven't heard much about except that is more expensive than the other two. Can anyone give me feed back on any chip they have put in their AU2 and if they would recommend the same brand. I've just installed the SS induction to night (already have K&N filter)

Check out the comparison article on AUFalcon . com. I think you'll find the result is much of a muchness, with the ChipTorque coming out on top as it is half the price. Perhaps you should do your research before mouthing off about a companies products. (And no, I don't work for any Chip company).

Also - the SS inductions is a huge rip off. For $27 from Ford, you could have got the XR8/T series snorkel and for another few dollars put a piece of 90mm pipe into the airbox and you would get better results than the SS bigmouth.

Also you will find that chiptorque can remove/move all limiters in the AU ecu where the others can't, as well as manipulate the autos

Coz I prob wouldn't bother if you haven't at least done your exhaust.

For the record I had a Unichip installed and I did really well.

Fred ..a chip is only as good as the guy who tunes it.Between chiptorque and unichip..the chiptorque has extra features to remove and up rev limiters.

Down in Sydney we are lucky to have Spiro at autotech engineering who always provides a great tune and I am yet to see anyone post less of him.He does unichip..
In Melbourne I would go and see JimMock Motorsport and talk to Brendan for unichip.

If you go to chiptorque a guy called Lachlan is the guy to tune it.

Unless your mate has had a chiptorue fitted (correctly) and as got back to back evidence to say it was no good then you are better off ignoring his "opinion". It's probably a safe bet that he neither has any clue about how it works, what it really does or what its capabilities are. He is simply regurgitating what he has heard elsewhere.

The chiptorque is an excellent product and has worked very well in an AU. The unichip is also an excellent product however has limitations when it comes to hard limiters (rev/speed) and change points for the auto.

It may be that your friend has mistaken the chiptorque for the "powerchip" which has not had great reviews and is a totally different company.

I too am one very happy JMM customer and will be getting the JMM interceptor chip to work on top of the chiptorque chip eventually. Now that, to me, is as good as having an aftermarket ECU....without the EPA drama's.

How are you going to "mod the cat"?

If your AU2 is a 4.0L manual, then maybe ~130kw at the wheels, and maybe a mid-low 15 second 1/4 mile time.

Modding the cat usually means cutting the entry and exit pipework and flanging it to accept 2.5" piping. I think stock opening on the cat is either 2" or 2 1/4" pipework.

What ever chip you decide to go for just make sure it is not a plug in drive away one, one that fit's all, you need a chip that can be tunned for the charectaristic's of your vehicle on a Dyno, I have a Unichip and I'm happy with it, now the other's may be better in their tunning advantage's but I've had no problem's with mine in getting good power and economy to boot.

Im running these mods ,Lachlan tuned the chip the motor now puts out 127.5kw. Im vey happy with the chip its so much more responsive right across the rev range feul econemy is a tad better , as I mod I can retune service was excellent and the price is right, good value :

Well guys all my Au is missing now is paceys and a chip and already im cranking out 133rwkw"thanks to RDP dyno" so the journey goes on and maybe down the track i might get radical and go the forced induction.

there is no such thing as a "good" chip, basically its just a data bender by intercepting data signals and altering them for the ecu to compensate for alterations made to the engine, for which the ecu is not capable of handling on its own, ie sensor readings which go beyond the the limits of the ecu's comprehension (ie off the charts).

IMO if you are about to do alterations to the engine which require aftermarket management of any sort, it is worth while looking into stand alone units. These days these units become cheaper and cheaper, or even the option of a second hand unit are becoming more and more available.

If you are simply looking at removing or lifting limiters ie speed limit, consider swapping to an XR spec ECU (the option of reflashing the stock ECU to XR speck is available at any ford dealer). The XR spec ecu has a speed limiter of 250km/h, which I believe is plenty, at least on the street. Also if automatic, the XR ECU offers the adaptive 7 speed controller, which automatically adapts to driving style and condition.

If its serious performance you are after with some heavy modifications to cam, intake, exhaust or internals or even as far as forced induction, i would definately recommend a complete standalone unit.

I had a personal experience with a aftermarket chip in my car, which unfortunetly hasnt panned out overy well, causing the car to stall at full drive, rough idle, and some other wiered things ... btw that is after replacing the chip 3 times, with no acceptable result, ended up returning the chip.

I have run my car on a stock XR ECU, which some serious modifications to the engine: Crow S3 camshaft, porting, port modifications, Intake, Exhaust. It handled it reasoanbly well, only idle was a little chunky, but nothing out of the ordinary for a high lift cam. Ended up running a solid 14.901 without too much drama.

That is how interceptors work (i.e. unichip). Chips such as chiptorque and tweecers change the values inside the ecu so can do more, like move limiters.

We use Both Unichip (for dyno tuning) and the Chiptorque J3 (for limiter removal) on my Bro's AU Falcon...
we had exactly the same problem as you have described above, Stalling, car cutting out at any speed, hard to start etc:, we even changed the body control module....
our suspicion came to mind when we noticed the speed limiter was working.
we ended up sending the ECU and the J3 back to chiptorque, i was told they couldn't fault it, but they did replace it as its still under there warranty..
since putting the new J3 and ECU all back in, its been 2 weeks, fingers crossed all is ok...
Chiptorque were very quick and paid express post to get the ECU back to us quickly.

my dash lights behind the stereo, air con etc have blown. i've tried but can anyone tell me how to remove the centre dash peice where all that stuff sits?
