Default I'm going to miss Fairlane

A few weeks back, i hired a car for a week whilst working in melbourne and Gipplsand. Hertz upgraded me from an XR6 to a BRAND new Fairlane Ghia.

Lightening Strike - full leather...sweet as. It was strange looking at the odo that had only 143km on it compare to my RTV with 151,000 on it!

Anyways, apart from that awesome new Ford smell, it was my first drive of the ZF-6speed.

I drove it all over Melbourne and out to Drouin, down to the Island and wow, I felt like going down to Ford and buying one. What a Cruiser. That 6 speed is a treat, and despite its size, i thought it handled well and even with me enjoying the 6Spd, a/c on all the time, it returned 10.2l/100km.

Picked up my 7 year old nephew and his (Holden lovin) mate from school. These two little fellas road in the back, their legs barely reaching over the seats, swapping footy cards. The Holden fella pipe up "Hey Jeeves - does this thing move or is it a bucket of bolts"..cheeky little fella soon shut up as i planted it, the I6 pushing them back into the leather as the box jumped form 6th to 2nd and took off towards the non-existent redline.

Did the same thing down on the island next to the track...it is such a great crusier.

I really enjoyed the 900 off kays- i even tried to see if I could extend the hire and drive it back to Sydney airport at my expense - even told work Id pay for the missed flight, but sadly it wasn't possible.

Ive only driven a handfull of Fairlane's but have ridden in many ZLs and NAs. More recently they've all been bloody cabs and thats a sad thing in my book.

If i had the $$ I'd buy one and use it as a Sunday cruiser - as i don't have the dosh, its back to looking at a Sunday Crusier XR8 or Bronco...

Very underated car, if only Ford had spent more time on the BF upgrades on the outside of the car i think they could have been more sucessful...

Yeah..i had a yellow XR8 Ute for a few days...never once turned on the Radio..that note out the exhaust and the bulge....

A few more $$ and you are so right...my sister in law is from Canada and the first thing she said when she got in it down the Island was "Are Ford selling the Crown Victoria here now"? She;s been in Oz for ages, but the because I was making such a fuss over the Fairlane and her boys, who love Fords (they are car and FORD mad cause of their Uncle), thought it was a new one.

I still think it was (well is) an opportunity for Ford Internationally. And the Fairlane is way more attractive the the CV

The Ghias do feel great on the road but their resale would always stop me from getting another one. They're well equiped with a very smooth ride but you'll get reamed (especially if you bought it new) come time to sell.

I work for a rental car company and the fairlanes are up there on the level of bmw's. We have 3 series and 5 series bmw's and the fairlanes cabin is a nicer place to be and blows the beemers away when you plant your foot. We only have one car that could be better then the fairlane and its an LS430 v8 lexus

Tell me about it!!!
The Au's price is not doing too well, but if you keep it for long enough you can justify it to yourself.
On another note everytime I read a post of yours I instinctively go to squash that little bug on your avitar

If you are really after one ... look at the Auctions ... occasionally they pop up there ... and for a decent price as well. Might be worth the look.

This is another reason why the resale value has plummeted .. Auctions kill resale ... but they are good for picking up a decent 2nd hand vehicle that is near new ... for such low prices.

Both Kevin Rasheed and i have missed the Fairlane [not farm]

It was still selling, as was the LTD and Wagon, those 3 could well have added 1500/pc a year to FoA production numbers, they could have kept selling them as they where with very few updates.

WHAT WHERE THEY THINKING??

I was not here then, and i am searching for a Fairlane [not farm] as a option for a friend, so thats why.

My grandfather and also mother both had Fairlane's [not farm] in the 70's we had the model with the lights that where horiz. not vertical.

My mum had a lead foot in her early years, that Fairlane was a muscle machine use to rocket down the Hume, she still on the odd occasion mentions it, the ex Lexus never gets a mention....

Ford's estate was Fair Lane. The Sedan is one word, Fairlane. You don't need [not farm], because it's assumed you're talking about the car, not the Michigan estate that it was named after.

Just a question for my naive self. Why do threads have to be locked? Why can't they just stay open? Who cares if a discussion has been done to death. Don't contribute to the thread if you're bored with it and move to the next one. I hate it when threads are closed because a certain 'few' have had enough. Mods, is it because of the amount of storage that threads take up on servers?

Old threads are usually locked when they are mined but no new content is added.

Because my LASER [not collimated light] was never used to vapourise a METEOR [not rock falling through atmosphere] I think this one can stay a while.
