Aaah shee-it. What a waste.
I find it hard to accept that with all those fourbys around the place, someone couldnt have towed him off the grass onto the dirt.

Not just doing donuts. DON'T park any hot car in long dry grass.
Hot cat converter and dry grass is a recipe for the ultimate burnout. Most country folks know that. |

What a waste...
Hot exhaust/engine + dry grass = fire...thought that was common knowledge?? Lots of fools around too, id have pushed the car with the front of mine if i were there! Im sure the owner would be happy to fix their bumper, not have their pride n joy burn to the ground.

Nah mate - he would have put a claim in with insurance company and police claiming you wilfully damaged his car and he also would have said it had no chance of going up in flames
You would have needed a signed statement from him first

Unlucky!!
How hot would the cats have to be to start a fire? Would normal driving get them hot enough?

Thought so, because i've never had problems parking in a dry paddock, then again...I don't tend to do burnouts either.

I hate those portrait videos iphones record, it would have been easier for me to watch if it was the right way up.
What a waste, all because of (alleged) stupidity. Just when you hear a guy say "It's going to go ****ing bang", it went bang. Was it loaded with extra tanks of fuel? Because it really flares up at the end when I thought the fuel tank ignited earlier. |

i wouldnt like to park my XB in long dry grass like that after a good drive. even parking it on fresh green lawn it will kill the grass in the same patern as the exhaust system and headers. cats would hold a lot more heat then standard headers and pipes.
it says in the comments that he had just driven it there and parked. not doing circle work. "quote" he went down to the lower part to find out when the ute show was going to start and did a bit of revving... but thats it. everyone else was revving their ute as well. this could have happened to ANYONE! and the reason why it was parked on this grass was...we could not find a park on the lower level. this was at the BNS thecutsnake91 in reply to pogly100 (Show the comment) 2 days ago Reply ShareRemoveFlag for spamBlock UserUnblock User Hey, please get some information correct. this VE was 1 month old. it was driven on dead LONG grass that was slashed 3 wks prior and not rolled or pressed. MY mate drove his ve up to our camp site not knowing this was going to happen. HOT EXHAUST + DEAD LONG GRASS = fire!! my ute is in this film clip i was very lucky for my VE not to go up! With VE they need the Clutch to be in when starting. so with this the clutch had already burnt out, so hence he couldnt move it! thecutsnake91 2 days ago

What the hell!
Someone's pride and joy going up in flames and people just walking past like nothing's happening?! How stupid are people really? That is the saddest thing I've seen... At 8:30 the fire really does get out of control. I'd be devastated!

Friends and I often take our cars down to an unused but mowed oval with cricket pitch..
Grass is usually very green though and we tend to have a bit of rain. The only bad thing that's happened to me there is I sunk my car down to the axles one day after being too lazy to walk it first haha. |

Awful lot of people don't know about how hot a catalytic converter gets and not to park your car on dry grass...hell, we came back from a trip to Bundy, drove the car into the yard and parked it to unload (the Celica was in the garage so we had to park on the grass), and left it there overnight. The grass was only about 2" long but there was still a light brown patch of dead grass right under where the converter was when I moved it the next day. They must radiate an awful lot of heat even at a distance.

Anyone that has touched a cat after its been driving will know how hot they get. They start melting your skin on instant contact.

New car and clutch burnt out etc.. I highly doubt warranty would cover that!!
Looks to me they virtually just let it burn.. Another car or 4wd could have easy pushed or towed it away .. Hot exhausts cool quick, quick enough to prevent grass fire..
