Default Faster i go the louder the tick!!

Hi all.

I got another problem...lol

I have this loud ticking noise comeing from the car. The harder i rev the louder it gets! Sounds like its coming from the injectors?? I have an AU II xr8 200kw. Ive read previous threads bout carbon canistors?? What is it and could that be it as well??

Also if its injectors, how much is a service for em??

Cheers Frank

What does the tick sound like? It's not 'just' pinging is it?

im not sure how to explain it?? it sounds like when you put unleaded fuel in it instead of premium lol Dunno how else to explain it.... But it seems to have gotten louder after i changed plugs and oil. I got TR55IX plugs. Could that be the problem??

A sticky valve from a bent rod can cause a nice 'time-bomb' ticking sound, and gets louder as you increase the revs, had it happen in a v8 of mine years back.
As the car was just a bash-around, i found that if i gave it a good thrashing it would 9/10 free the sticky valve ..lol , not a fix of course , but it went for years like that.
Gl, i hope it's nothing major. cheers.

Sounds like a rocker shaft. Canister usually more prominent at idle. Identify which bank and then use the old screw driver as a listening device and narrow it down. Rocker Covers come off these windsor motors real easy and gaskets are reusable. May not be it but worth checking.

Sounds even more like pinging with that statement. Incorrect plug gaps would contribute to that.

Must have been typing this while you posted about the TR55IX. In the XR's they actually recommend a colder one (BPR6EFIX-10) which runs a 1.1mm gap. If you check in their utility listings you will see the AU3 pursuit250 has this listing and I presume that the XR low series bonnet runs that little bit hotter and I have heard that some guys are having pinging issues when using the TR55IX on a range of AU's.

I had that problem, the cheaper NGK option (the one I use) is to use their standard non iridium BPR6EFS-13 plugs.

Can't say for sure but it sounds like it, you did say it has only happened since the plug change.

If it is I would drive it as little as possible and keep out of the throttle if you do drive it. The plugs I specified are the cheapo $3 a plug ones and need to be replaced more often.

I was also told it could be noisy lifters. Does that make sense?
