Thought this could be an interesting topic of discussion,
I'm currently doing 50,000km+/year at the moment mostly just work driving, might average 100km worth of driving on my weekends normally. Spending around $700/month on fuel, average 6.5L/100km or there about, using 98 in my daily, if I used my ute as my daily then it would double my fuel costs as it does 12L-15L/100km How much driving do you do and what are you guys spending a month on fuel? I'd save a significant amount on monthly fuel costs if I switched to an EV with off peak charging, but I don't particularly want to spend $60K-$70K to save say $3-400/month on fuel or something, $60K buys me a lot of 98 Last edited by Franco Cozzo; 21-10-2024 at 10:54 PM. |

My daily is a 2009 Smart Fortwo, I do roughly 1200 Ks in the Smartie each month, I fuel up roughly every 3 weeks @ $45-50 a tank, so about $8-900 a year, still cheaper than catching the bus including insurance and Rego

This year, I've been travelling to work only four days a week. So that's about 440km. On top of that, I do about another 100km or so of general running around. So, around 500 to 550km a week.
That's one gas tank for the Ute. Or, around 70 litres of LPG. At $1 a litre (which it is generally a little under), that's about $70 a week on direct transportation costs.

I travel to the office 3 days a week - 61km round trip so that's 183km. Add another 150-200km for other driving (school drop off/etc) call is 385km a week. Wifeys Everest does the rest, I just dont keep track of KM's/etc in that.
I normally take the SS to work 1 day a week (unless weather is crap) and use the Sorento for everything else. Fill it up every 2 weeks normally at $90 a tank. Average 7.5l/100lm ish For the SS, It does 1 day a week to work (61km trip) and one or 2 track day/cruises per month. I probably fill it up once a month...lol Average consumption is about 14l/100km which, considering 600hp and city driving, isnt all that bad.

haha, "ouch" is only a matter of perspective. I used to spend my weekends ****ing $300 to 500 up the wall. So doing weekend trips has actually saved me a lot of $$$

I'm very fortunate for fuel costs, I only work 3 days a week in my fulltime job, fill up roughly each fortnight, journey to work is only about 12 kilometers.

Fellow member of the 3v as a daily gang... Although I only do about 20-25,000 km annually. Range per tank is anywhere from 440 to 600, depending on amount of highway km and judiciousness of right foot application (or lack thereof). I fill up usually every second week and even with the "low" cost of 98 these days it's still over $100 for a full tank. |

I might do between 5 and 6000kms a year in all my car's combined, as my wife and I work full time (plus some) from home (or fly in and out of the country regularly), so I run a Territory Turbo Ghia, and an F6 Typhoon. Average economy, don't know, dont really care as I only visit the petrol station once or twice a month.
If on the other hand I still had to travel to and from work every day, I'd consider a euro diesel for the family 7 seater. No chance of buying another Ford without a major change to their line-up that would meet my needs (and desires) and the needs of my family.

In my last year of commuting to work (2016) I did 31,163 km in the EcoLPi at a cost of $2,61.34 for an average of 66.3 cents per litre; 11.9 l/100 km and just under 8 cents a kilometre fuel cost.
This last FY was the first time since 2016 I've exceeded 10k km (albeit only just) with 10,019 km driven at a cost of $1,297.03 for an average of 95.0 cents per litre (almost 50% higher); 13.62 l/100 km (now it's mostly local not highway) and almost 13 cents a kilometre fuel cost - a 60% increase. The van racked up 12,705 km last FY and consumed 1,228L of diesel at a cost of $2,470.69 for an average of $2.012 per litre; 9.66 l/100 km and 19.45 cents a kilometre fuel cost.

I live 5km from work and drive a 2012 Mazda2 manual,.
I do other short trips and top it up when it gets to half probably once overy 3 weeks for around $35. My Wife works even closer but does the school run once a day plus a few trips to the shops in her petrol SZ Territory. Showing 12.3l/100 due to stop start use and takes around $40 per week. Then we have the Prado which is only used for towing or touring and shows a constant 9.3l/100 Used 220l Adelaide to Bathurst and back which I thought was pretty good with all the mods fitted and A/C on Last edited by BENT_8; 23-10-2024 at 08:17 PM. |

Long gone now, just haven't changed my avatar.
Had the Ranger tuned with EGR delete, went brilliantly for 8 months, then one day it decided to circumvent the EGR valve shutdown whilst towing and threw a CEL. Took it back to the tuner who admitted they have more trouble with tuned Rangers than any other vehicle. They fitted blanking plates which eliminated any further chances of it happening again but said it had swollowed a heap of uncooled exhaust gas which could shorten its life expectancy. I asked him what he would do, he said he'd be hesitant to keep it. I said what would you replace it with, he said Hilux 2.8l. Low k Hilux 2.8l was out of the budget but during our searching we stumbled upon a 1KD Prado, the Wife always wanted a Prado so subject to inspection the decision was taken from my hands. The tuner offered to go over it for us, he said it was really good, had been tuned/EGR delete already. That made me nervous but he said they do heaps of them and not to stress. Only thing he cautioned about was injectors, a common fault on 1KD engines, so I had them done and havent looked back. The Ranger was a great vehicle dont get me wrong, but the Prado does everything we need only with less noise and more comfort. Last edited by BENT_8; 24-10-2024 at 11:12 AM. |

My daily is a V6 Prado.
If I’m going to my normal job it’s a 45km round trip and I use between 12-16L/100kms depending on the time of day. If I’m doing my own business stuff I probably do similar kms, but use about 20-22L/100kms towing a trailer. So yeah I spend too much. |
