Redbook Extended Warranties

So my Ranger is coming to the end of the factory warranty and I am contemplating what to do. I almost bought a new one a few months ago but that didn't happen. So I am looking at extended warranties as I have already had a major failure with the vehicle.

While checking out used car values I stumbled upon Redbooks extended warranty options. They have a comprehensive package which they say is a full extension of the factory warranty. Reading the pds, this does seem to be the case. For my vehicle the price of $1240 seems quite reasonable for a three year extension considering the warranty claims I have made.

Does anyone have any experience with these warranties? I know generally these warranties aren't worth the paper they are written on but is this the exception to the rule?

Can you buy an extended warranty from Ford before the new car warranty expires?

Haven’t had any experience with the RedBook waranties, but i had my water pump (fgx xr8) replaced under extended factory warranty, that was a supercharger/inlet manifold out job so was quite a costly excercise so was glad i had xtended warranty.

Is a just a personal preference to go extended or not but my case am glad i did.(apart from top rad hose i had no issues with the car during the normal warranty period)

If you can naddis go the Ford warranty, if not and sure the redbook one is same as factory then go that.

Ford used to have an option of extended warranty - might be worth comparing to the red book one.

Last time I got a quote from Ford it was around $2500 for only 2 years coverage.

And it’s got nothing to do with ford. It’s alliance insurance. They own the warranty’s

I’d be more comfortable paying $2500 for ford warranty than $1250 for aftermarket insurance warranty

As a repairer I’ve found it pretty ordinary to the car owners

No.

Read the PDS.

First thing it says under exclusions:
"Normal Wear & Tear or deterioration of parts;"

In other words, you're actually covered for nothing.

Yes, they will allow some claims. They do that to keep up appearances.

But you are literally better off taking the money and burying it in your back yard. Then dig it up when you need it.

You're already covered by Australian consumer laws if an unreasonable failure happens out of warranty.
I don't know what year model your car is, but major failures should be cover for the next few years out of warranty. Assuming you don't have 200,000kms on the clock. I'd look into that before buying an aftermarket warranty. Those aftermarket warranties often have stupidly low price caps on certain things. $2000 limit on engine failure is one I saw.
