My dream car

What I'd really like to build is a XW or XY Falcon 500 sedan which looks stock inside and out but has the running gear from a FG F6 Typhoon. It would look sedate but would go like a scalded cat. Has anybody built such sleepers?

Yep, I bought one 4 years ago (see sig), although I'm sure it doesn't go as hard as Kinksta's

Oh and the car before that was also one (sort of), a factory 5.0L EF Gli.

Resurrection, I'm sure I have seen something like what you are suggesting done before in a performace mag. An early Falcon like an XW or XY with a BA XR6T powerplant.

Just to merge this with the "is a 6cyl Cortina a muscle car?" thread, go one better and shoehorn the turbo 6 in a Cortina.

Just put buy a XY and either restore it to its original beauty or put a wild V8 in it.
After all your hard work people will look at your F6 XY and say "wow thats different" but the sound of a tuff V8 will put a bigger smile on their faces.
If you want to be different and have the $$$ get a coyote in there or maybe a diesel v10.

i was actually inspired by a plain, grey, V8 BA XT with a rear window venetian thing going on. highly modified under the bonnet, but you could not tell on the outside!

i got a yellow noisy mkII xr6 instead because of insurance lol...

sleepers = win!

I suspect you would have a huge problem getting the engine to fit, it is the wrong shape.

I thought both of those cars had versions of the I6 in them.....

Completely different engine, the new one is much taller as it has 2 cams on the top rather than one on the side. Also the bottom is a different shape and would be "interesting" to mount.

I thought you could use XG mounts for a DOHC into an X series just like you can with the SOHC.

This idea is quite big in the USA, they call it 'retrotech' over there. Lots of old school pickups and saloons sitting on corvette or similar chassis and drivelines. Awesome idea, all the classic looks with engineering to make it ride, steer, stop and behave like the new cars we so much take for granted.

Probably be cheaper and easier to find an F6 typhoon which has heaps of hail damage or something to the body but mechanically it's straight. Cut off the shell from the floor plan and drop an XY body over the top. Hell of a lot of work but it will handle just like a new car and look like the old. Just an idea.
