Thumbs down GTA IV to be edited for Australia! :(

Considering canceling my deposit now and get an imported version, there are cuts being made for Australia only because we don't have an R18+ rating for games, so the game is being edited to comply with M15+

What I don't understand is, in Saints Row you can bash an elderly woman to death for 15 cents then go buy dope and steal and innocent womans minivan, keep her passengers hostage as you go shoot down a pimp to steal his hoes all whilst saying *u*k every second word.

But they have a problem with GTA?? :

So where is the best place to get the uncut version? I paid for my copy 6 months ago, not impressed it's gonna be edited, not sure if I'll even be able to get my money back.

You should be entitled to a refund considering the item your getting is not the same as the item you paid for.

This is one thing i get into huge fights about with everyone and anyone who supports no R rating for games.

This is total BS, nothing ****es me off to no end more than when this happens.

Also NZ are getting the same edited version we do despite them having an R18 rating. Almost the same thing happened with vice city and san andreas. They got released for a month or two before they got recalled and edited. Only difference this time is that rockstar are getting in first. Violence is generally ok, its the sex+violence that causes problems with this kind of thing. Anyone remember manhunt? i bought that from the UK.
I bought my GTA games from NZ and the UK, already paid for GTA4 from the UK this time. $80AU delivered, should have it on the 02/05 or 05/05

Anyone care to elaborate on where (web address) they are getting their OS copies from?

Thanks.

I'm going to cancel my order I reckon, or at least try to find out exactly what was edited.

Well Last week my brother got the latest Soldier of Fortune, they never released in Aus because the censors refused to give it a rating.

Awesome game, but the gore is so incredibly life like it is scary. I never have seen a person disembowled before until playing it, nor seen a person with a hole blown throught them with a shotgun until playing that game. Its so graphic I dare say they were right to ban it.

Honestly a 15 year old who spent a week's wages on a game that is so graphic would really affect them to an extent where it becomes the norm ( no longer too much gore ) and then will not play other similar games where the gore isnt as lifelike IMO.

Even story lines can be enough as well, though watching underbelly would see that as a contradiction. Look at ManHunt 2, Being a psychiatrist in a insane asylum and having to fight you way out to stay alive, its no longer just shooting with guns, its putting heads into fuse boxes.

Maybe GTA copped it because of the sales they will have andknowing that a certain % of minors will be playing it. It only takes one to be affected and the news to blame it on computer games to be the cause before anything more violent than PuzzleBobble to be banned. But sure some games do deserve to be banned.

Well that's why the r18+ ratings should be introduced so 15 year olds cannot buy these games. and these games don't have to be edited to suit australia's classifications.

Welcome to the 21st century, kids aren't effected by game violence because it's already normal to them. the more the better.

I remember the first game that dare say the "F word" I was shocked when I heard it in a video game, now it's weird for a m15+ game not to be saying it.

I'm 16 and i have to say i'm not affected by videogame violence, it doesn't influence me AT ALL. I can tell the difference between the real world and what i do in games.

You played "The Getaway" on PS2? That game is off the hook with swearing.

Yep, I played that, and the amount of racism and swearing in that game was pretty bad but still was ok to be released in Australia!!

And even braking into the brothel in that game walking into people having sex and topless girls walking around was ok to be in Australia :s and that was years back.

so why gta be edited?

I don't beleive that game content affects kids lifes at all (as in violence, swearing, sex)

It's games like counter-strike and world of warcraft that kids spend 6 hours + a day playing and screaming at the computer when some one kills them is the problem.

Playasia is where to get it from if you have a PS3.

Beware that xbox360 is effected by region coding. But PS3 isnt.

Although I have heard issues when trying to play online using an OS version of a game on an Aussie PS3 with an Aussie PS3 account.

I bought that at Eb games 2wks ago. Though theres no gore in it, its such a crappy game, it was part of the 2 for $50 and its brand NEW!

Considering canceling my order on GTA now as well, anyone have links to where they ordered it over seas ?

pretty sure the only thing edited out is sex scenes, and being able to go around and root random chicks and all that junk, same stuff in that hot coffee edit.

I've seen some pretty bad CS rage, WoW has got to be the worst one out of the lot though.

the doo gooders know about GTA and its awesome ness
hence why they stop it

other games they dont clue onto straight away

aus definatly needs an R18+ game classification has done for YEARS

but its just as bad as the banning of pornography in WA by 10k do gooders then 500k of regular joes said we want it back and the govt said we cant do that.. you cant undo a changed law..
stupid government

good to know the PS3 games are playable that you buy overseas..

can anybody confirm the issues of playing OS PS3 games multi player on a AUS PS3 etc?

Must've been edited for release, He got his through my cousin in Germany...

No but they're parents can buy them for their birthdays/xmas. Now Parents wouldnt see the harm in just a computer game now would they?

Its the same story with porn video's too, they arent for sale in shops for a reason, regardless of rating as it will eventually fall into the wrong hands. I remember when the simpsons first came out, the backlash of some of the language used (go to hell and the rest of it), then its southpark with its serious topic issues too... a game where drugs, prostitutes and sly dealings
as well as organised crime maybe just a little too far, especially for the 13 year olds where parents buy them the games they want regardless of rating.

Duke Nukem 3D has strippers, though during the 90s everyone probably didn't take things as seriously as they do now.

If I import it, will the shop ship it out on the 29th or for recieval on the 29th?

You can look around www.ebay.com (US) or www.ebay.co.uk (UK). Some sellers do ship internationally. That's what I'll be doing.

Just ordered my copy from eBay. $80 (incl. shipping).. not bad for the uncut version compared to $120 for the editted version.

Its probably not anyone in NZ's fault. I'd assume its Rockstar increasing the market for an edited game. ie if they have to release an edited version, its probably cheaper for them to make twice as many copies and offer it to other countries rather than just make a just a few (relatively) just for Australia. In the grand scheme of things, Australia and NZ don't really take up much of the market when it comes to games and as always, money talks.

Most online stores will ship the game on the 29th or they day before in some cases. I'm not sure which store mine is coming from, i've got a friend paying for 2 copies and he took care of it for me.

Also, anyone buying from the US should make sure their TV is NTSC compatible. Most are now anyway though.
