The Truth For those seeking real and genuine Ford Capri Perana's created by Basil Green.South Africa's muscle car.
In recent years all sorts of Capri's have appeared with the Perana name most of these are copies, built from 3.0 V6 Essex cars. The original cars varied quite alot in detail as customers could pick from a list of accessories. Many originals have also been written off in accidents, and on there ID plates survived. To help prospective restorers and buyers purchase real and original vehicles, I have done some research and worked on a few comparisons of original details. Emblems, steering wheels and paint details, actually show if the car is original or not. No database for vin numbers and build details exists. The total number of cars built was not even recorded! It is estimated that 543 Capri Perana's were built. The Engines were new crate engines in the choice of 2 states of tune. Track versions were powered by GT40 302 built by Shelby. Road versions were powered by Marine 302 with either 450 or 600 Holley's. Ultimately the casting numbers on the block, cylinder heads and gearbox casing can be checked to verify the year of manufacture and assembly. Most copies will still have the V6 differential.Which is 7" crown wheel Borg Warner type. The real V8 cars from Basil used a 7.5" Crown Wheel LSD Borg Warner diff from Australia. Basil did use stiffer spring set-up in Perana's front suspension although V6 versions will suffice. The V6 brakes, originally used were inadequate aftermarket types should be fitted. Following are some images to be viewed click Thumbnail to view. Posted on behalf of my Dad who is a Ford fan thru and thru. Also having lived in South Africa.
