turn your key to accessories
press the rear demister button 3 times within 5 secs
the door locks will cycle (lock then unlock) to confirm its in learn mode
press lock on your remote
the door locks will cycle again to confirm that the keypad was registered
turn the car off when done, then back to accessories to check it all worked

Does anyone else have problems doing this?

Clearly I have some sort of issue that prevents me from successfully doing a procedure that thousands of others in Australia can, but NEVER have I successfully recoded any Ford remote in any Ford I've owned!

What's wrong with me!

Talking re programing

Hi the way Ive done it on half a dozen falcons EF and AU was this sit in the car turn the ign on turn off the radio and any other gear that runs off the key close all the doors and turn the key to the off possition then do this
1 turn the key to acc
2 press the demister button 3 times in quick sucsession the demist light should light up on the dash and the door locks will cycle "lock and unlock twice"
3 now push your door button on the remote while it is still in the ign on acc
and the doors should unlock now do the same to the boot button on the remote and that should unlock
4 now remove the key and open the door and go outside and the buttons should lock and unlock the doors
this works every time for me using second hand remotes
hope this helps JOHN

Well I think this cheap car(read ex taxi) I bought has some issues? steps 1&2 all work as described but the remote will not learn(or the car's system)? and every now and again after doing the steps, with no luck, you turn off the key and it will instead of unlocking the doors jamb them locked, and I mean jamb you can't open them using the inside handle, which is a tad embarasing when your locked inside your own car? so the next question is if somebody knows where the "smart lock" brain is mounted? and can you get one from any AU and try and plugging it in? as I've got a nearly complete S1 front cut sitting in my back yard that I purchased from a local wrecker three weeks ago for another project I have underway, is the "smart lock" ecu the one that sits under the centre console towards the front?

P.S.
thanks to all who have replied so far to this thread you guys are guns!

I was just looking at eBay at a couple of remotes there and had a thought is there a differance between S1>3 'cause I'm trying to program a S3 remote to an S1 car, could this be why it's not "learning"?

Well if it's any consolation every thing that you said was spot on except that they won't interface, I was wondering on eBay there are a couple of flat remotes there and I noticed they only have 2 buttons on them so does that meen that with S1's they don't have a boot release on the remote?

Red face series 1 remote

Hi Frank your not having much luck are you.
Series one only have two buttons one for the boot and one for the doors
(press once to lock press once again to open) they use the same button to lock and unlock the doors
Hope this helps

Well John I suppose luck is how you look at it, I'd say I've had good luck 'cause I've learned so much about these newer cars from this awesome thing called the internet (beats paying $800.00 for a workshop manual!) and I get to meet and interact with some great like minded guys who like me have a passion for the cars we drive & tinker with, u c this old bus I'm getting together is just a hack to drive to work & back my real project is my 90k S3 XR6 which I'm about to pull off the road and repower with a BF I6T motor! I'm nearly there with all the bits & pieces I need the olny major expence now it a WOLF ECU last week I got and fitted a FIBRE SPORTS carbon fibre bonnet with the B series bulge which looks real trick, this week I hope to finalise the exhaust manifold to the turbo( now that was a real head f--k) and once I get this old bus registered it'll be time to as they say "get the head down & the bum up" and start having some fun!!!!!!!!!!!
Frank.

: yeh bb all's good with the world, bought a pair of remotes on the bay to suit EF > AU1 thank God they work a trreat, as yesterday I stopped by the local Ford dealer to price a d/s door lock barrel only to be told that the price would be $250.00 just for the barrel!!! my responce was does that come with a lifetime warranty and what are they puffing on at head office, and to quote the man behind the counter " yeah and they don't share " still thanks a bunch to all you guys who've been giving me spot on tuition throughout this whole ordeal I wouldn't have gotten anywhere without you all.

You've gotta press a button on the remote (doesn't matter wether doors or boot) once the doors have locked...

What i mean is it only cycles to lock and doesnt unlock after pressing demist button 3 times.so pressing a button on the remote does nothing.

yeah, it should lock after pressing the button 3 times...

Press a button, doors should unlock, then lock again. Then turn ignition off, car will unlock. Try the remote and see if it locks.

If it doesn't work then, then it's probably the BCM

Worked for me but pushing the demister 3 times only locked the car then turned off the key to unlock then had to manually lock the car from the outside. After that it works fine

I just want my remote to unlock "ALL" the doors at once instead of just the drivers door.
I gotta push the button a second time to unlock the rest of the doors.
BTW Mines a series II

Hi. What remote do you have? If it is the 4 button one try holding down both the lock and unlock buttons at the same time until you get a response from the car, then release the buttons and see what happens. That is how it works on BA and BF falcons. Cheers MD

Yeah the 4 button remotes you need to put key in ignition and turn to accessories and within 5 seconds push on demister, then off then on again and wait for 5 seconds until the doors lock.
Then press the lock button on the remote and turn the ignition key off.
