I am baffled as to how to choose a quality water pump given such a range of prices, as seen on ebay: http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_f...:MEFSRCHX:SRCH
Prices seem to be from $40s(make?) to $110+(Ford genuine), delivered. Any advice on how to assure the purchase of a quality item? Brands? Makers? Thanks for your thoughts, Peter |

G'day Peter Welcome to AFF, you get what you pay for mate, the cheaper ones are known to fail after a couple months. Personally havent had to change one yet on my au but from what ive read Gmb,Protex and Repco are some names with good reputations. Maybe the original factory ford one is the best but a little more expensive. Depends on what you want to spend i guess, dont want to do the job twice aye!

Make sure you choose one that is supplied with a new pulley fitted as these can be a bugger to change without a press.

I brought a Ebay Waterpump with Pulley (BluPac). Bolted up with no leaks, works well.

Peter, I fully swear by GMB water pumps - never had a problem with them, ever. I've fitted them to all my cars when needed and never had a problem. I've bought mine from Repco & Supercheap. Ebay is alright for some stuff, but it's awful hard to return faulty parts when you have a problem (ie: get your coin back) IMO, you get what you pay for. GMB are good value for money for everyday use - dunno about high performance applications though. Hope this helps you out.

i bought one of these about 6 months ago, a mate swapped it over for me, had no troubles with it at all, and my car does a lot of driving. $35 from ebay, or repco quoted about $70 or $80 and i didnt even bother getting a price from ford.
