Default ford forums being extremely slow!

Is anyone else having the same issue? Its taking me about 40 seconds to load a new page on fordforums.com.au
However, every other website I have been using is normal. Its been like this for about 2 days now.
Any ideas?
thanks.

For those that haven't viewed the other thread, Russ posted reports about this for most of yesterday. The last post was made at 12:40 am and then again at 6:15 am.

So it looks like he hasn't been getting much sleep.

I suggest buying shares in Coffee and Panadol as he'd be going through large amounts of both

I will take shares in Twinings Earl Grey and English breakfast as I know Russ isn't that keen on Coffee...

Is it Frustrating having it so slow? Yes...abso-bloody-lutely...all round I would say... for Russ and members alike!

If anyone can get this issue sorted though, it is definitely Russ.

At the moment it is more like a mix of Julius Sumner Miller and the Mad Hatter.

I'm going to have to take the server down for 15 minutes to see if I can fix the issue which appears to be a deliberate denial of service attack.

Cheers
Russ

Sorry it took longer than expected. Not sure if we have immediately resolved it but there is now something installed to block those type of attempts in a different way to the way we have been using. May take a little while before it becomes effective and it might actually block (albeit only for 10 minutes) legitimate users while we fine tune it.

Cheers
Russ

I'm sure you have it under control Russ, but just in case I've had a fair amount too do with DDOS, spending many weeks battling it.

Not sure how the site is hosted etc but a quick and simple (but expensive) solution is to use a commercial service such as BlackLotus.

Another much cheaper but still effective service against most DDOS attacks is using a CDN such as CloudFlare for your DNS hosting.

You can also purchase device such as Radwares Defencepro but they aren't cheap.

Another simple trick is to change the servers ip and of course, modify the DNS (having a low TTL helps here). Many DDOS attacks go for the IP address.

I use a combo of the above.

Hope you get on top of it mate, it's a massive pita and most of the time, the attacks are from outside aus so you can't do much legally if you are lucky enough to trace them :(

Speaking of blocking...what's with the banning of AFF in certain places in other countries/citys eg. Shanghai, Hong Kong used to be but I can get it in the hotel there now, LA, even London!!
Just get a message saying the IP address is banned.

I'm going to close this thread as there is another on the same topic.

FPVS3 - it's been answered many times before but one of the methods we use to keep spammers out is to IP block the ranges they use which funnily enough are mostly overseas. A simple email to admin@ will get the block removed or the range narrowed for you.

Cheers
Russ
