Actually, its about 5 years old. But the giotto is one of the best home machines you can get, with fully replaceable parts. The only thing it had done was a new grouphead seal, and a new boiler pressure switch.
A decent manual machine will always make a better coffee than any auto ! Also just bought 500 take away cups from the net for $80 delivered, , so anyone want a brew ! AC/DC |

That's a hefty unit...
I'm satisfied with our $300 jobbie. Sure its a thermoblock and sure its a cheap appliance but it makes nice enough espresso! Also, be sure to use decent beans in your new unit (I think this goes without saying).

AC/DC the biggest problem I've got is getting a good grinder. The crappy one's in places like DJ's etc still don't grind the bean to a fine enough size. I'd post mine but it's just a $170 Cafe Roma. It's my second one, the other one was run dry to many times by people who should never've been near it, wore out the heat pump. It's a good unit, I'd never buy an auto. Choice mag use it as a benchmark for even the most expensive auto machines.
I also got taught by a couple of trained barista's over the last few years on how to actually make better coffee at home than cafe's that use the larger machines. It's all about how you treat the oil in the grind that comes from the bean. It's a hassle but cheaper at home but there's only one cafe in southern Adelaide that makes consistently good coffee. The others just over extract and/or burn the oil so it tastes like acid. I go to alot of cafe's. If everyone who went to cafe's drank long black coffee they'd all notice how bad they are... instead of crapacino's etc. |

we get free ones from work and the demo lady makes it for us... and sometimes makes fresh bread and cake or roast LOL oh and a massage :P (not from the same person though)
mum bought a delonghi but it never gets used anymore, its too much work for a few cups then you have to clean it, by then it was quicker to drive to gloria jeans

Another vote for the Breville cafe roma. Mines been used once a day for 3 years and hasnt missed a beat.
Cost me under $100 when I got it and when coffee became really popular they jacked the price up. If it blows up i'll buy another the same. Works out heaps cheaper than buying takeaway coffee on the way to work. |

I've never understood why good coffee making machines are so damned expensive.....For the cost of one you can buy a decent 42 inch plasma TV and a HD DVD Recorder with Hard Disk.
Can someone enlighten me please. I love good coffee and always downstairs from work buying at least 3 cappos a day but to ask $2g for a machine is highway robbery?

They cost money, cause they make the best coffee. Why spend thousands on modifying your car ? Cause you want it to go better.... Why buy a Fairmont when a Falcon will get you there just as good ?
And I already have enough decent TV's in the house ! And being a manual machine means there is bugger all cleaning. The cost is not the issue, , if My Wife and I were to buy 3-4 decent coffees a day, this equates to $25 per day, , and then what if you want a decent coffee at 8pm ? So then the $25 per day equals to $9000 per year on coffee that is not as good as I can make it ? Oh, and I have tasted the ones the Delonghi Rep makes at Good Guys and Harveys in Townsville . . . . . . . . . . better than instant, , but ! AC/DC |

if my wife and I? I could justify the purchase of anything with that? Has this coffee machine actually stopped you and your wife from spending $25 a day on coffee?
I have a grinder worth about $150. I buy my beans direct from the wholesaler, I buy the darkest roast and I grind my coffee daily. A nice warm cup of my freshly ground plunger coffee (plunger worth $30) kicks the pants of anything else I've consumed. I like real coffee in decent sizes, little espresso's really don't interest me at all and Latte's all taste the same. Also, I either get people thinking my coffee's too strong or I get the response Tarrantino got in Pulp Fiction. Usually the latter. |

If it means I dont have to get out of the car, and go to somewhere like Gloria Jeans, or Coffee Club etc etc to get a sub standard coffee I guess thats the main reason.....
And whats the go with McCafe "Rainforest Alliance Coffee Bean" - what a bunch of doo-gooders. The coffee is worse than before. But at least they use a thermometer when steaming the milk so you dont either get a warmish coffee, or a burnt to milky drink ! Shounak - I dont do little mini espressos, , just a standard 12 ounce cappuccino or flat white, , no chocolate on top, , no latte , no half shot with vanilla or any of that faggy stuff.... I guess Im like the Soup Nazi from sienfeld, you get one or the other and thats it ! I HATE people who order a "Half strength soy latte with a shot of vanilla" when lining up at a shop ! AC/DC |

By the way good looking and performing machine and grinder combo. People do not understand the satisfaction of pulling the perfect shot of coffee with a crema thick enough to support a spoon of sugar. OK maybe I love my coffee too much _2: Rob |

Nope, , you dont love your coffee too much, , , you just like quality coffee and you have probably found that you can do it better than the 18yr old girl at the coffee shop who makes 1000 a day, and doesnt care ! |

Yep making Coffee is an art form, I work in North Sydney and have 15 cafes within a 500mm radius but only one can make a good coffee. he charges $3 a cup but it has been perfect every time not too hot not too cold, never bitter, never too weak.
As I said it's an art form....... |

Maybe I'm just not too fussy, but most Coffees from most franchise places have been alright. Gloria Jeans seems to be pretty decent, but probably the best I've had from Franchise places would be Hudsons. Definitely ones I would stay away from are Starbucks American crap (thank God they've pulled out of Adelaide and only serve the Eastern states) and On The Run which mostly operate out of servos anyway.
