This doesn't surprise me, Dave's work's been quiet the last month or so, and he's fitting accessories full time now (at Mazda). Hope it picks up, or else both of us will be having long horrible days at work again

Just wondering where all these cars are? Looks like the top 10 list for a South East Asian country.
Out where I live all the new cars are Falcons, Commdores, Territories and Landcruisers... I must be in a time warp out in here rural Queensland. |

Isn't it though, you have to hand it to the asians they have done a pretty good hatchet job on our car industry ..................well half of the car industry any way, the rest of the fault lies with us as we have allowed the many factions of gov.inc over the years to do a hatchet job on the rest of the motor industry/manufacturing.

New Corolla is actually not too bad to drive. Not as good as Focus in handling department but cheaper and has got Toyota badge . Focus is a quality product in one of the most competitive segments of the market.

They were advertising the base model dual cab triton here for $29990 on the road with alloys and side steps. I know the Ranger is much better but that is hard to pass up. When I got my Ranger I think the Tritons were 35k with alloys, steps and tow bar which was still considerably cheaper than the Ranger but if they were doing this deal when I was in the market I don't think I could justify the premium to the Ranger.

My street is much the same. Almost every house on my street has a Falcon or Territory in the driveway, those that don't have Commodores. Problem is, most of them are 10+ years old... I'm the only one with an FG.

I honestly can't believe that is the list of the top ten best selling cars in Australia?
Seriously, what has happened to the buying public??? At least let the Corolla be locally manufactured... Is it not?

Japanese quality vs Thai rubbish. After the hatchet job Thailand has done to our industry I wouldn't purchase a car built there. Even the i30 and Cruze sold more than the Focus. Cars are just a disposable item today, lease it for 3 years and then get a new one.

It's not rocket science why Toyota are number 1, just hard work and commitment to quality (when compared to competition, I'm sure there are dodgey examples of Toyota cars), the only car Toyota have with supply issues with is the 86 and that's self imposed. They generally don't have a vehicle that's best in segment, yet are still in the top 1-3 in each segment they are in. Feel free to call the buying public sheep if you don't agree with their decisions. They are not doing anything differently than anyone else, they are just doing every little thing better. It's my opinion that it's been Toyota that has changed the public's buying habbits, rather than the general public changing it. They have always had the small car market, and after many years of selling a boring but reliable product, that held their resale value. Most mechanics I've dealt with love them and recommend them. Eventually people started moving away for Ford, Holden, Mitsubishi that was in the shop more often than the Corolla, the service they received was worse than what they heard from their nanna's Toyota dealer, and the resale value of the Corolla/Camry was higher than their more expensive and more interesting cars. Hilux has been round for generations, same with Landcruiser. RAV4 was the first soft SUV's (with the Honda CRV), all these cars have been around before the so called boom in SUV's, pickups, small cars and none of them (apart from maybe the Landcruiser) were regarded as best in segment or having unique technologies when compared to competition. It will take and very good brand with commitment from all relevant levels of the supply and after sales service chain, to knock them off no 1.

Funny part is look at how spread out the sales are... Back in the day Holden and Ford were selling up to 12,000 Falcons & Commodores between them, or 6,000 each... None of those are anywhere near that. Just shows how the market has broken up with all the extra models now available.
