Default Great Wall Motors

Was driving behind a new Great Wall ute today, have seen a few around now and got me curious about the great car from China.

Had a look on carsales and you can get the dual cab 4x4 diesel for $24k and single cab for $22k or less... that is really cheap. On their website, they have a counter and apparently their are over 18,000 on the road now!

Has anyone here actually bought a great wall vehicle, are they OK??? You hear chatter that cars from China are crap, so you expect to see these things on the side of the road broken down...

I mean really if you purchased one under a business and kept it for 3 years, you have warranty, roadside assistance and your getting a brand new car or ute for peanuts.....compare to a new hilux single cab your lucky to get a rwd petrol for $27k drive away.

Just can't believe they are that cheap!!!!!

The reason they seem cheap, is because the Thai-made dual cabs over here are so expensive.

Are they imported by Ateco?

There was a thread floating around here where a member bought on and modded it. I think a lot of Rodeo stuff was direct bolt on? That was about a year ago, perhaps a long - term review by that member will help??

Don't know the good or bad on them as I don't own one, nor know anyone that does. There would be a heap of reviews online from pro's and owners if you search hard enough.

haha 2 stars and rust issues, I can see why these vehicles are soooo cheap.

So there are 18,000 people out there who were baited in by the value.

18000 tight ***** ..... Great Wall will sell many many of those cars as people are very much willing to put money over safety or and kind of patriotic ideals.

So victoria can implement a stability control criteria but not a minimum star rating?

Doesn't quite make sense does it? With the lack of modern safety, there is no way I could be tempted by the price.

For those that don't know, the Great Wall utes are actually the same as a Holden Rodeo/Isuzu Ute (hence Rodeo after market parts fitting) running a Mitsubishi engine, worst thing is the 2 star safety rating, but presumably those thay buy em feel safer when they hide the ugly front with a roo bar

The X240 is A Toyota Surf chassis with Mitsu running gear, safety rating is 4 star so not actually that bad. Needs more grunt though.

Have to say, the X240 Wagon is pretty easy on the eye.
And for those that are worried about 2 stars, not defending them, but im pretty sure theyd be safer than your 15+ year old rust buckets out there.

Ive driven one of the dual cab utes and the gearbox has to be the most agricultural thing I have ever used, just terrible and hill starts dont bother.

Didnt really pay much attention to the rest (interior etc) but the driveline sealed it for me.

Funny thing is that people rubbish it as a slug etc not even knowing that you open the bonnet and everything says Mitsubishi ... including the drive line and the tray is a direct swap with ISUZU and other panels stamped by them. Yes the basic tray is low rated but as stated above ..... still better than most things running around with "Bobs Plumbing" on the side and the SUV is comparable in safety to most other well known SUV's

Just haven't seen many threads bagging out the more expensive Mitsubishi Triton! Must be the 'Made in China' thing.

It seems no one is taking into account how new the brand is...only a late 70's company, and only on australian soil as of '09, and thus thats when comparable to other cars on our market.

Take this into account, and all is not bad. Even Ford and Holden still cannot release a new model with out a share of complaints (Rust, rear break lines etc).

the V240 seatbelt problem has been rectified...so in reality, should be retested. The X240 gets 4 stars...

And here is the spanner...Rodeo/colorado only gets a 3 star safety rating.

So, the reality is, GWM arn't the sardonic poor quality death traps...

And have a look where Kia/hyundai were like 15 years ago compared to now, you can be sure that these chinese brands will get there quicker.

Scary.

Not the best score but how much of that is down to the crash test dummy driving it. All they ever do is have accidents.

I haven't driven one, though my missus ( she is a receptionist) got an X240 (SUV Wagon) through work (panel beater) the other week. They had to get a new front bar in for it, the bar that came in and from what I hear all parts are the same was rough as, the plastic was warped, the finish very rough. They tired as much as they thought reasonable to smooth it and fit in on. but still you get what you pay for.

I think some should buy the GW so they can have a proper whinge fest. (I find it better to compare AFTER I drive things ...... not from hearsay)

Seems the X240 is Petrol and the X200 is the Diesel version - seems a bit odd to have a different badge just for the Diesel.
You would think the X200 to be a lower spec (200 is less than 240).

Anyway, i dont mind the look of them, the Diesel seems OK on paper as well.
Id actually consider one when they reach rock bottom prices like SSanyond did when they were new here.
4 year old Diesel for $7000..... great second run around.
