Default Will todays results effect Fords sales results.

Do you think that Fords victory this year will bring more Ford sales? Im sure the Ford dealers would like more people popping into the showroom from Monday.

I say it will, if not now maybe in a few years. A lot of young kids will be swayed to the Blue Oval now that we've had success at the mountain and they will buy cars in a few years time.

I saw 4 threads disappear.

MAke this one 5.

But no, a Bathurst win won't change anything.

However, people might realise that Fords aren't crap cars, like so many one-eyed Holden drivers believe (and refuse to pay attention to the results of the past coupla years).

Funnily enough...some schlong said, "Keep Australia Beautiful...Drive a Holden."
That's of course once they reduce fuel consumption, and make their cars look a) unique and b) good.

hmm just watch sport tonight i notice that a few of the holden car had problems and end up causing nearly most of the crashing in first few laps. It out of lucky or Lowesy is actually a good driver still think Mikos Ambrose still a good drive for the blue oval

Let’ see.
Customer goes to Ford dealer and wants to buy a car just like the one that won Bathurst. The salesman points customer to the spare parts department and advises him to ask for the part number of the door handles, as that is about the only part on the car that has any similarities to the race car.

Customer storms off and goes to local Holden dealer to buy a car just like the one that came second.

An old nissan saying, back in the 70's, was "win on sunday, sell on Monday" It worked back then, but I'm not sure weather it would work now.

I voted NO as the cars on the track have no resemblence to the cars in the showroom...except lights and bonnet.

That was the old saying " Win on Sunday, sell on Monday". That is why I posted to poll to see if it rings true today. My feelings are it doesnt. Im thinking parts might sell a little bit more Ford merchandise than normal.

There are people that are stupid enough to think that the supercars are the same car they buy off the showroom floor, just with a body kit.

A self confessed die hard Holden fan working behind the counter of a local business said to me yesterday, Holden will win, because their motors are now 0.6L bigger than Ford, not 0.3L bigger like before. Couldnt tell him other wise.

I don't think so. The notion of a win on Sunday sell on Monday doesn't apply anymore. People buy cars for reasons other than it won a car race. I can't see holden fans jumping ship to own a car where the only part that resembles a race car is the shell and the ford badge.

Just to clear things up, how much do the track cars actually resemble showroom ones? I mean the chasis is relatively simmilar, they have the same branding, but what about under the hood? Nothing at all, not even the engine? This question is for both Ford and Holden.

I only ask because I'm a total newb.. sorry

Well it certainly can't hurt, can it? You would be surprised how many ignorant people there are around. Ford and Holden don't throw all that money into V8 supercars for nothing. Even Betta Electrical might experience sales increases otherwise they wouldn't bother with sponsorship.

That's a good point, but I don't think people will just flock in, to buy new Falcons, just for the sake, that it won Bathurst.

Ford will be more apprieciated though.

Ford uses a race version of the old 5.0l Windsor. Holden uses a 5.0l Chev. Both around 620hp. Nothing like what you can buy.

I can't see how it would. The cars of both makes are virtually identical these days in performance and the only thing they have in common with their road going models is cosmetics, unlike the cars of many moons ago.

If you bought a car purely on how it placed at Bathurst you would have to be a moron.

With all the parity regulations the only thing the race cars have in common with the road car is the basic outer shell, from the doors back, the front and rear screens and the lights. Every thing else is purpose built. Even the floorpans and firewalls are so heavily reworked it is hard to say they are the same.
As for sales, I think the win, especially if Craig wins the championship, and the BF2 release will at the very least inject interest into the now old retail car. It was always going to be tough for Ford to compete against the VE until Orion arrives, this may simply make it a little easier. IF marketing can work it properly. Actually on the subject of TV ads during the telecast, in Canberra at least it seemed that the local dealer ads for the FPV, and Ford service, almost outnumbered the Commodore ads.

There are a lot of people out there that believe that the Supercars are mechanically similar to the road variants. So to these ignorant people. Yes a win has a chance to sell cars.

may not make much of an impact on sales, however might shut some of the holden guys up for a little while. its a good win for the ford brand , a deserving win for two great drivers, and long overdue...
