Default how to kill the service indicator light au????
can any please let me know how to turn off the pesky service indicator light on my au fairmont.

It's in the service manual, but goes something like hold in the odometer reset button and keep it held, then turn on ignition and keep that button pressed for around 10 seconds.

thats right. while holding ur speedo button located in the center of the dash, turn the ignition to "on" ie past accessories, but not cranking. continue to thold the button until the light goes out with a slight beep. usually takes 10 to 15 seconds

Watch out if you have an early AU, 98 build. Sometimes with these you have to release the odo button at the right time, rather than just hold it in and wait for the beep. 13 to 14 seconds usually.

I've got a 98 build AU, never had an issue with releasing the button at the wrong time. I just wait for the spanner to go out and let it go.

in both my AU's i have never had the service light come on, what triggers it ?

comes up every 10,000kms. Just looks like a spanner logo on the cluster near the odo.

Mine clears the spanner and then enters the speedo correction mode - but this may just be a feature of the police spec cluster.

It's a series 1 thing. Series 2-3 don't have the spanner. They need to bring their own tools! :

Not surprising really, Ford were pretty inconsistent with a lot of things back in the early AU's. Some cars (like Useless's wagon) even had all the limiters left off the ECU programming :

Mine is a 12/98 fairmont and I can never time it right!
And yes Police clusters have this extra feature to allow you to continually calibrate the speedo.
