Default 8 cents a litre "GONE"

Well fellow Queenslanders, Captain Blighs done it. She's getting rid of our 8 cents per litre fuel subsidy blaming New South Wales motorists for coming over the border and buying our cheap fuel. Shame on you Cockroaches and I hope we kick your bums in state of origin this week.............. : : : :

I understand that QLD residents are used to the fuel discount subsidised by QLD tax payers, but wouldn't the money you guys save be better spent on improving roads, more hospital beds, police on the streets or more schools. One figure I saw is $500million a year. Thats a lot of taxpayers money for very little saving. It's adding an extra $4 per 50 litre fill at the pump, which doesn't seem to be a huge amount.

If people are saying the state is going broke, then it makes perfect sense for something like this to be canned. Big outlay for little return. Most likely it was introduced in the first place to win votes at the poll.

I'm paying anywhere from $1.17 to $1.29 a litre and thats just for normal unleaded and I by choice pay for Ultimate 98 which is anywhere from 12 to 15 cents more depending on servo.
I know I'm in WA but the price of fuel is expensive anywhere. They have us over a barrel so to speak. Lets hope QLD will put that extra fuel money they are now claiming back to good use like extra police or or whatever is in need over QLD way.

I agree, although it would be good to have it isn't the biggest deal in the world. There are other places the money could be better spent than saving me a couple of dollars here or there.

If only this was true ... unfortunately under Capt Blight the money raised will undoubtably be used for far more important matters at hand ... like pollies pay rises and plumping up their already bursting at the seams super packages!

You know, there is one word that seems synonymous with economic disasters in this country.... but really, how can a state that had money literally falling from the sky (yes, I saw some ;) ) be so broke, so quick.

The people of QLD voted in this government only a few months ago with the strongest support coming from the unions and battlers.

Guess who the loss of subsidy and sale of assets like the roads, rail and ports is going to hurt the most.........

They've been swapping cash for really big infrastructure projects, so the asset register is strong, but cash at bank is weak.

not to get too political, but during a minerals boom and an economic up, where billions of dollars were pumped into the states from internal taxes and GST revenue...how are the states broke when no infrastructure was built (NSW) and the health system is in shambles...even more to the point, why are these people voted in election after election??? Bligh said during the campaign that the subsidy would remain (I heard that all the way in Canberra)...I think it's time for non compulsory voting, so that elections can be decided by people who have an interest in politics and the future of their country....

What a load of BS. I lived on the GoldCoast half of my life and have never once seen

The subsidy is a load of crap and hasn't existed for years.... sorry I will rephrase that.
Hasn't been passed on to QLD motorists for years. So really what difference does it make.

As I said in the other thread I highly doubt you will see any benefit form the government increasing its revenue by $500 million - the money will simply dissappear into the governments coffers - it will pay for consultants and the like that push for new laws/legislation - most of which we dont need (in my opinion)

Because there is a subsidy in NSW as well and it is about to be or has already been scrapped recently. Servos are subsudised from Tweed down to Grafton on a sliding scale.

Actually it does get to FNQ. Did it ever occur to you that there maybe a bit of freight cost getting petrol 1600km from the nearest refinery (Bris) to Cairns?
