There was an email sent out to all Woolies stores that all our Australian grown signage was to come down, as most of it was no longer accurate.

"97% of our produce is Aussie grown... (we're working on the other 3%)" Not anymore!

Thats crap. Australia is home to some of (if not the) best produce in the world. Its shameful and sad that we are importing things which we are known for all around the world.

Oranges for example.... We have farmers down south tipping out tonnes of oranges cause of the imports!!!
The best I have seen (Was for all grocery items), all the Aussie products had blue price tags, and the others had the standard yellow! Worked for me!

Yeh, and we had to change the ticketing in fresh food and deli departments to state where the stock was from. Isn't WoWTV just fantastic :togo:

I've noticed a lot of stuff from China in the vegie area. I would not p*ss on anything edible from China, you never know whats been done to it, its such a dodgy country. Give me Australian produce any day.

I always thought it was a seasonal thing....

Fact is some fruit and veg can't be grown all year round here so in the off seasons they import it.

It's no different down here with all the import crap, makes you wonder in the government really does care for our country. Another thing that shytes me is the labelling on a lot of food items like take pickled onions or gherkins for instance the label reads 'may contain local and/or imported goods'.

P.S. If you buy a lot of bottled water be sure to check where it is bottled, i came across a brand 'Aqua' a while back it's bottled and imported from malaysia!! THATS WHERE I DRAW THE LINE!! :

And with Coles making the decision to sell up all of it's Bi-Lo shops, 80 in total i heard, because of a $30 million loss last year, it could be a good time for a dick smith type to buy them up and go all 100% ALL AUSSIE PRODUCE!!

Here's a little test for everyone.... Go to your cupboards take out 10 random items, check whether they are local and/or imported produce. I did it and i didn't like what i saw, to the point that will be scrutinizing labels a bit more before i buy.

my girlfriend works in an ACTUAL fruit and vege shop

they goto rocklea markets (the big fruit markets) at 4am twice a week
and buy piles of fruit and vege
and its ALL australian there is only like 3 things in the shop from other countrys

everything in their shop is cheaper than woolies which is in hte same building

even bananas..
garlic is cheaper when you buy chinese as the australian garlic is like $15 a kg compared to chinese $6 a kg

its quite amazing when you know sombody in the industry

a). Its winter
b). Most fruit are out of season
c). Buying either Australian or American at this time of year, it's all been in the cool room/freezer for a couple of months.

Next time you buy some cashews or peanuts I'll bet that the label says product of Vietnam.

Well just to clarify that is the case with Nobby's and IGA nuts.

Just remember guys, that most of chinese fruit and veg has been fertalised with human excrement...... And does not go through the rigorous QC that the oz products do. But ya gotta just love the level playing field and FTA.
