Just an update on this:
http://www.european-parts.net/catalo...7816620229396d This is the front lighting in the ST, not sure if its in the XR5 as well. It should be a fairly direct replacement for the current unit. |

Yeah XR5's have those. They also fit Focus Mk I. I'm looking into a price from Ford locally to see if it's cheaper here. Direct plug in.

Does that light do any more for the dark rear section of the cabin than the stock one?

That does look the same as the XR5 one....
But we have the same issues.... the back you cant see jack all. Ive got the black leather and at night I need to grab a torch to find anything in the back.. even sitting on the seats. |

I think the best way to resolve the rear cabin darkness is to find the centre pillar lights that go in those slots. |

Ford Australia has priced these at $350, so euro parts should be the better option if anyone wants to purchase this

Im totally confused.... What slots are we talking about?
Is this a square type shape that is above the seatbelt pully system thingy in the pillar? Cause if it is thats the side airbags? Mine clearly says airbag there. Someone wanna take a piccy so we can see where we are talking about? I've been looking for spots to fit a light.... i was half thinking about maybe agling something up from under the front seats pointing backwards if that makes sense. |

In Europe, or in the ST170/Ghia here I think it was, there was a similar light right in the centre of the roof that lit up the back seats. Not sure if there are any lights, I'm not touching the roof lining to find out... anyone seen a wreck?
Otherwise it'd be dead easy to rig up a simple positive/negative wire tapped into the ones that run into the front light... the only issue is getting into the roof lining.

I just had a look.... only the XR5's have the side curtain airbags... so you guys should have no dramas putting a light in that spot above the seatbelt pretensioner thingy.
Would be fiddly getting the wires and stuff down the pillar though. Would be better putting one up in the headlining like previously mentioned. |

I pulled one of the square shaped plugs out and its a cover for screws that hold the b pillar plastic on. In the ghia still only plastic plate. The side air bags are in the backrest of the seat on the side bolster. Which are a saftey pack option for the CL and standard on all the other models (ford focus brochure)

Wiring is never a problem so long as you can fit coathanger wire from 1 hole to another, and that there isn't any moving parts in there. I'm going to check out the Ford dealer on Saturday and have a close look in the Ghia. If anyone had detailed pics of the Ghia interior, that would greatly be appriciated |

I put in one of these in the interior light, LED Festoon Light Globe 12VDC 41mm
Cheap solution light's up the cabin a lot better, but also looking to do something with the rear and boot as well.. FYI: The cover on the piller above the seat belt just hides a bolt that holds the plastic panel on.

The same one in the rear would be great, the entire cabin would be lit up very well.

Would like to see some photos of this once your done, will you be able to change the battery once there mounted? It's a real down fall of the focus and a large oversight in this day and age, considering it's dark for a large proportion of most days in England you would think they would have got it right.

I bought a Focus XR5 and was told by the sales guy that there were submarine lights. This is supposed to be a light that shines down from the ceiling on to the gear stick/centre console. It wasn't working when I picked it up and was told to advise the service guys on the first service and they will fix it. When I asked service to fix it they said it was not part of the Australian model and does not exist. It's stated on the Australian website and I want to know if anyone else has come across this problem. I know its only a light but its disappointing that the sales or service guys don't know their cars.

The brochures/website state that submarine lighting is only on the XR5 model. Are they special lights or just a fancy name they've given them for standard lights?

I was told the same thing when i looked at the car
If its on the website, id be pushing for them to fix it. Ford service are usually pretty crap IMO anyway, and dont know much if its not a falcon.
