Hi Guys and Girls,
I thought id wonder down to the Cortina area of the forum. ive been building and playing around with an XB coupe for 27 odd years now and I have a 10 year old son who is an absolute car nut as well. now, when yo have a car nut son, what do you do?? You buy a 2 door MK1 Cortina pre airflow for him! as you have now guessed, he is all of 6 or 7 years away from being unleashed on society with a licence, so iv'e got 6 years to build him one of Australia's best MK1 Cortina show cars and hopefully give him some life skills while we do so.. The plans at this stage ( and they may change) are to use all the lessons we've learnt from my XB Coupe ( top 25 true street cars in the country as voted at summernats 30) and apply them to the corty. we are talking flawless body and gaps, highly detailed underbody and some tasteful mods. a full custom interior and an awesome driveline are in the works. Oh, and it needs to be street-able and registerable. no big block V8's here! so, not knowing too much about Cortina's, any info or remarks on cool mods are welcome. front suspension, rear suspension, driveline options.. I'm all ears. if you were to build your ultimate Cortina, what would you want to do or see?? we have some great ideas, but I want to here from you. Budget has (almost) no limit.. Go!!

What I would do? Check out the thread below.
http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?t=147598 It is what I almost did 20 or so years ago. Went with doing MK2 Escort with SR20DET instead. The CA18DET is the easiest bang for buck option and easiest fit in the MK1 Corty as the steering is at the back of the X member and the CA's sump is up front. Drop in fit that. If you choose to go with the Escort steering rack mod, then the CA's sump will need little modification to fit. Nothing a custom sump couldn't fix. Also, not sure if Geoff is still in the biz, but he is a good contact to have when a Mk1 Cortina needs a little 'boost'. See below. http://www.cortina-mk1.com/contact/ |

Sounds like the beginning of another love the beast story...
Can't go past the airplane wing indicator switch setup in the pre airflows. The Escort rack and pinion conversion is a definite, if not the whole Escort platform, with GP4 rallying being so big at the moment theres some pretty serious stuff available, I'm using the Gaz gold coilover, dial adjustable struts in the Escort, they're monsterous in size and super high quality. Other than that even standard 2ltr Escort struts make the Cortina ones look like match sticks. I use these guys for trim, rust sections and bolt ons, it costs about a hundred bucks to be a member but all they're stuff is as cheap as chips and good quality http://www.mk1cortina.com/ Engine wise mine came with a 4age which was a pretty neat and easy conversion by the previous owner, I went back to the original pushrod because it also came with the car and made it a numbers match GT. Zetec/ Duratec is a good option, the conversion can cost a bit but once you've got it the engines are a dime a dozen and cheap. They take boost too. These guys will give you an idea of whats needed, they're just an example, there are other suppliers or you can fabricate yourself. http://www.retro-ford.co.uk/shop/ They also do an BDA/ Cosworth style rocker cover for the Zetec that will trick even the purists if you want the oldschool look. One mod that I've always looked at is moving the rear axle back a bit, don't know if its the same on the two doors but on the sedan the wheel sits way too far forward in the arch, might be worth looking at if you want to fit big wheels. Good luck with it and sing out if you need to track down any odds and sods, its a bit underground but theres lots of Mk1 Cortina folk still out there.

Hi. With 6 or 7 years to build it you should have a good look at doing a project binky ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHv...B7NyU5tIiEZHBg ) type setup. Focus AWD for newer stuff back to Laser or Seria (might be a bit too big) AWD for early east/west or north/south engine layout. Cheers MD
