Default 2020 Ford Puma

https://www.caradvice.com.au/769389/...puma-revealed/

Apparently not for Australia.

"As an announcement for European markets, this news has no bearing on our Australian product offering”.

“The EcoSport sits alongside Escape, Endura and Everest in our expanding SUV line-up for Australian customers and will continue as part of our local offering.”

Shame, I quite like the design.

If it’s rhd for the uk market why wouldn’t they sell it here to take on the cx-3? It would be the perfect rival.

The statement by ford australia doesn’t rule it out though. It just says the release is about europe.

Looks like a Toyota CH-R.
An ST version might be fun.

Front end has Jaguar vibes.

If they released this in an ST I'd seriously consider it.

The EcoSport was actually one of the first to launch in the compact SUV segment.

As usual for Ford, they didn't capitalize and take advantage. Now I know the EcoSport isn't an especially good product, but the segment leaders are not without fault. The Mitsubishi ASX is the very definition of mediocre and the CX-3 is poorly packaged in terms of interior space.

Hopefully Ford bring the Puma, it looks distinctive and will drive well.

IMO, Puma = CX-3, we need it way more that Ecosport
and god willing it would have similar sales draw as CX-3......

Looks the goods and being based on the B platform would consider it future reliability to be very sound.

This thing looks bloody fantastic. And a complete hybrid lineup linked to the great Ecoboost engines.

This has definately world car if the year material. Also I wonder if it’s the only hybrid around available with manual transmission?

From reports, the Ecosport will be finished in Australia by the end of the year, so without a compact SUV, the Puma would be the logical fit. Note, I did say logical ….

Ford Australia could see themselves with a reduced SUV lineup by 2020, with Ecosport gone and the Endura/Edge no longer being sold in the UK, making Australia and New Zealand the only RHD markets for the vehicle, I doubt it will hang around for another year, which would then just leave the Escape and Everest as their only SUV offerings. Not something you'd want to think about.

Also, if you believe other reports, the Bronco, 'Baby Bronco' and Explorer won't be made available to Ford Australia. There is a 7 seat option being readied for the UK and European markets, so that could fill a spot, but without the Puma, things don't look great.

Yes the Focus Active hatch is here, but I believe the Focus Active wagon would be the sweet spot.

The front, specifically the bonnet and headlight locations, remind me of the last toyota MR2. Or was it called MR-S by then?

definitely needs to be brought into AU (though i have to say this type of car is a waste of space, far too compromised.).

Priced right it should hopefully get some attention and turn that into numbers. Won't be a CX-3 but steal a few of its sales it gets more into the Ford brand.

Not my style at all, particularly the exterior, interior nto bad. However overall it does give off a quality impression. If it ever does come here I will be interested to see if it is like that in the metal.

And no, apart from young women, I don't see the attraction of these cars.

Unless you're just after some boring super-econobox, the attraction of small hatches is that they can be nippy and fun to drive.
My XR4 is still the most fun you can get from 2 litres.

Saddling them with taller and heavier bodies (combined with lacklustre powerplants) just ruins all that.

God forbid if they replaced the EcoSport with this.
Imagine if this tanked and they lost the 39 sales of EcoSports this month.
Ford would be financially crippled.
Or even worse, they sold 80 a month and had to employ someone for an extra hour to drive them off the boat a month.
Would the sales of an extra 40 pay for the hour of overtime.
I am glad I do not have to make these hard decisions.

JDP that’s very cynical, you need to take a deep breath and relax.

Having said that, Ford will never get back to the glory years of the 80’s and 90’’s.

Well, it would be a way for Ford engineering to get more work locally,
something on T6 that's completely different to Ranger and Everest.
something like a Jeep only different...

Cause it was extremely niche. SUV Puma would be playing in a much, much bigger market.

Yet another SUV. Ford UK have got such a disappointing range. If you take a look at their website, it's nothing but SUV after SUV. It breaks my heart.

Growing up as a Ford fanboi in the UK, they had such a massive range of cars. Fiest, Escort, Mondeo, Granada, Scorpio, Focus, etc etc.The only thing close to an SUV was the awesome Galaxy.

How times have changed. I know they've had to change for the market. But it's utter trash to look and see just how many SUVs thre are on their site compared to how many cars.

Just give me another new Falcon FFS.
