Default COVID-19 Impact on Used Falcons?

Not sure if it's entirely COVID-19 related, but when checking used Falcons for sale, there's not many currently available; and those that are, seem to be at a higher price.

With limited airline travel options, and (some) closed boarders; are cars now more valuable than before, particular Aussie made ones?

Or are people simply not game to try selling in the currently environment?

I think it’s more a case of you can’t buy new ones anymore, so they seem to be holding their value reasonably well.

Not much out there that is a similar type of vehicle.

So many people tell me nothing is selling atm. They assume this they don't know it, and because of that no one is listing stuff.

I have. I've been selling dozens of things from my garage cleanup. I'm selling stuff I've had advertised for 6 months, suddenly inquiries and $$$.

Last week I sold a boat, guitar amplifier, and 5 oyster lights. This week I've had inquiries on a motorcycle and guitar. It's been like this for months.

Houses also. In my "village" of about 50 houses about 4 or 5 have sold recently, some before they ever got listed the others soon after. It's insane.

Yep. My house sold in 3 days and could have been sooner.......

As for Falcon's, reckon will hold value ok depending on the model.

In QLD, 2 months ago there were a lot of cheap Falcons listed, and people like myself snapped one up very quickly. Now though similar quality Falcons are now double what they were. Bseries were approx 2-3K for XR6s in 'reasonable' condition, now they are almost twice that. FG XR6 got as low as 2.5K for something just needing some cleaning and trim repair... now its more like 6-8K.

Bseries XR8's have gone from 6-9K in average condition to be up around the Bseries GT starting price!

I think people were shedding cars before the Gov threw money at us all to keep the economy going. Now that most on Gov subsidies are earning more than some of us working full time, prices have over inflated.

That's my uneducated take on things anyway.

Now excuse me while I take my day off and go work on my XR6 to sell on asap...

Most Falcon I people know what to keep their falcons and either use them as a 2nd car for long trips or simply drive them into the ground now as no more are made.

Perhaps this explains supply and demand...either that or most people are thinking they will be future classics and want to told on to theirs for nostalgic reasons.

I don't know how all these electrics will go though in 20+ years time....who will be able to fix them all?

There are crazy prices now being asked for XE and XF base 4.1 L 6 Falcons too...are they starting to become classics now as well?

Well, I'd like to be in the areas you guys are where you're saying things are selling.

I've had my RTV on carsales since January. Still there. Have even dropped the price by $1k to try and move it on, but I've had very little interest. I've probably had about 5 enquiries all up, with all bar one of those time wasters.

I'm also in the market currently for a house to purchase. I was kinda (only kinda, because my gain means it was someone else's loss) hoping that more houses would become available with the whole C-19 pandemic and job situation, but houses are still moving very quick down here, with estate agents saying they have not seen any decrease in properties being available.

But our town is probably a little insulated because of the industry types we have here.

Still, wish I could sell the RTV!

That’s interesting. I’d have thought some adjustments to the statutory write-off laws might have been a good (simple, quick) way to boost local industry.

Normally a slight economic downturn lifts the used prices of “hoarding tools” - trailers, utes, kit sheds.

There was an article in one of the papers a week or so back, where the hypothesis was increased car sales due to people giving up on public transport due to COVID-19. In turn, there was good business in buying a cheap, second/third/fourth hand clunker to get to and from work. The target market price was in the $5-10K vicinity. In my view, this would include Falcon, Camry, Corolla.

Lots of interesting insight has been given here.

This in particular looks seems quite a likely explanation:

Some interesting stats from Carsales: Some cars seem to be selling quickly too - available one day, and gone the next.
Seems to be a combination of high demand and low supply.

Hmmm I’m thinking about putting 20k on that 2010 G6ET with 50,000km that cost 12k interesting market for sure. I was holding out for post covid.

I haven’t seen a change, been parting a few AU XR’s lately that I’ve picked up crazy cheap. I price things to sell but nothing’s lasted longer than a few days

For starters, old Falcons and desirable newer models have been ridiculously priced for a while now.
In regards to Covid, I think generally there is a lot less stuff being privately listed, because rightly or wrongly many have bought into the social-distancing idea.

One bizarre thing I have noticed:
At the end of last year and into this year, there was a decent supply of cheap houses around our area. Plenty available under $300k, and not selling.
Supposedly Covid is supposed to make the housing market crash...
Yet all those houses have sold DURING the lockdown, and new ones coming on the market have been snapped up within a week.

This comment has me wondering, whether I’ve been pessimistic in valuing a 3.45 B-series ute LSD, figured it would fetch $200 tops. Fleabay has them asking for a whole lot more.

COVIDS had an impact on many things people buy. Everyone’s home, so gumtree surfing helps with the boredom. I know job keeper people who usually take home $300/wk now with $750, anyone on Centrelink is now ballin, they’re lining up buying flatscreens from JB, fire pits and chimineas at Bunnings and secondhand falcons.

Agreed. And the protests going on around the world are showing the media's attempt to talk up a 'second wave' simply isn't gaining any traction. Time to get back to the old normal and call this Covid-19 virus for what it is, a bad seasonal flu strain.

The real extent of the shutdowns won't be known until the government hand-outs stop and people have to fend for themselves.
