Default Carsales have no new Ranger listings.

So lately while browsing Carsales, as I regularly do, I noticed that there are basically no listings for MkIII Rangers other than Carsales generated ones. A few weeks ago there would have been over 100 for new MkIII dual cab 4x4 in 3.2 or 2.0 and that number seemed to be growing as more became available. However now, there are about 5 or 6 'used' ones and the rest are Carsales generated ones. Does anyone know why no new MkIII Rangers are being listed?

ford are following other vehicle manufacturers and banning dealers advertising new or demonstrator vehicles on third party websites to stop price shoppers. this should allow dealers to retain a better margin as the consumer cant simply shop on price alone. long term it will build value into the brand again. check other manufacturers, they are all going this way.

Than maybe importers should open up the stock listings to public browsing so that we can check colours, specs/options fitted etc...and just list a drive-away price.

as long as they advertise what stock they do have on their own site, so be it. its when they don't even have an up to date inventory on their own page, I wont call let alone make the trip. if they cant be bothered, neither can I.

Not to mention the fact that Car Sales charges a fee (I think its something like $75, but I could be wrong) for every enquiry they get through carsales...

Carsguide, ftw. They list the (dealer/seller) location and contact details.

The salesmen I've recently talked to aren't that impressed with carsales. They are very aware it's costing them for each referral.

This has been part of the carsales model for as long as i remember with many ads stating not to make enquiries unless your serious about the vehicle so i doubt it is the reason a heap of dealer ads have come down i n the last fortnight.
The demo Raptor i listed at Rebel Ford in the Raptor thread isnt even listed on Rebels site anymore, neither are the others on their respective dealer sites but the Raptor at Rebels is still sitting on ramps on the yard,..

Do you think they took them ads down because it was costing them money?

Do enough research on the CS site and you can find out who the dealer is and phone them direct. I do if I can.

Just about every other industry had their margins cut by online sales, sounds like the auto industry have only just figured this out.

You’d think the fact that new car sales are dropping, manufacturers would be trying to entice more buyers and make it easier to search what’s for sale.

Along with the carsales situation, which is quite accurate, I've also been told from a reliable source there is a stop-ship on Rangers at the moment due to issues with the 10R80 in that particular application.

So if they are not advertising Rangers on Carsales to stop consumers shopping for the lowest price... Why are they still advertising Mustangs on Carsales?

The dealers took nearly all the new cars off carsales and only used ones seem to be there now. If you want a new Ford of any description you need to check dealer by dealer. Only the generic ads seem to be on there now with no way of knowing which dealer they maybe attached to and no pictures of the real cars they supposedly represent.

As mentioned above its not just the Rangers. I just looked again and now now appears that all new Ford ads have been taken off Carsales other than the Carsales generated ones. Carsguide is the same. No new Ford vehicles other than F series.

Yes - I confirmed this with my local dealer yesterday. Tells me that it was hurting their business competing with the lowest prices on offer with Carsales. Tells me things aren’t too good out there at the moment.

I think this strategy will back fire on them in the short term.
The backbone of any business and free enterprise is marketing and advertising.

What Ford should have done instead, is have a meeting with all their Dealer Principals and had a gentleman's agreement that on one advertises a price under a certain price point for a particular model.

Yes, I know the ACC could see it as collusion or price fixing, but there are ways around it.

That way all the dealers make more money.

I'm probably 20yrs behind the Times
But I seem to remember back in the '90s Ford Australia Bought into a heap of Dealerships in Sydney, in order to "centralise" (for want of a better word) Pricing.
is this still the case??

I think that was part of the RJV (retail joint venture) that were supposed to adhere to. I think it failed!

Toyota did it about 6 years ago. Holden did it a couple of years ago.

Didn't seem to affect them at the time.

A few Melbourne Ford dealers were advertising cars well under cost, which raised issues with NSW and QLD dealers asking Ford if they were buying the cars cheaper or if there was some sort of sneaky deal going on. This was affecting Ford too as dealers were going back asking for more incentives etc. It affects the brand and resale when you have good product you should not need to sell them below cost.

And yes your correct they can't be seen colluding on pricing.

As long as a dealer tells the truth when you walk in and state "I need a white Wildtrack asap" and they jump on the pc and say, "sorry nothing available across all Ford dealers Australia-wide now but if you order from us now we can have one for you in 2 weeks as we have one for our own stock arriving"...and then you visit another Ford dealer and they say "sure no probs..there's one in suburb XX, we'll see if we can get it for you" ....

You have hit the nail on the head here. The people it hurts are the smaller country dealers, the big corporations just like seeing sales numbers

But they are selling them below cost for a reason. Banning advertising on Carsales doesn't fix whatever that problem is.

Yes it does. Carsales pushes the market down. People go on there and search the cheapest price, print it out and walk into their dealer and demand that they better it. Now people will have to go back to negotiating.

Its worked for Toyota, not so much Holden because they don't have the best line up of vehicles.

Not only are Ford dealers no longer advertising on Carsales, they are also no longer showing 'new' cars on their stock pages on their own websites, only demo and used.

E.g. Knox Ford...

http://www.knoxford.com.au/stock/search/?

Forcing consumers to ring or call into their dealer showrooms, where sales staff have a better chance selling 'face-to-face'.

Yes they aren't allowed to advertise anywhere.... Unless its a demo with 1500 kms or more.
