Prince dead at the age of 57

Just watched the news, sadly singer/songwriter Prince has doed at the age of 57.

Brilliant at his craft very sad, he will be missed.

I'm a bit the same. No doubt he was an great artist, but I found his music to be a bit all over the place. In saying that, he certainly pumped out a large number of albums.

Was listening to a snippet on the radio this morning where they were talking to a long time friend producer/engineer (can't recall his name) and he was saying that Prince would record a song, and his mate would say "this will be a hit" and Prince would turn around and say that style of song is exactly what was expected of him and that he couldn't release a song which was expected. He needed to release the unexpected. My interpretation was that, as a result of this need, he 'reinvented' himself a number of times over his very successful career.

Personally, I didn't like a lot of his music, but I can appreciate the music genius that he was. The same friend above said that Prince could play any musical instrument very well and it was rare that they needed to go back to rerecord any songs because he got them right the first time.

He will be sadly missed, but his legacy will live on. RIP.

Never liked his music, then I had to learn 30 odd prince songs on guitar in a week for a Prince cover band I had to fill in for 15 years ago for a few shows and I've been a fan ever since.

A huge loss to music. The words "Musical Genius" get thrown around often but IMO Prince is one of the few that deserve the title.

Don't forget there is a multitude of hits he penned that he did not actually perform or record himself.
