My understanding is that if it affects visibility one iota its illegal therefore worthy of a claim.. ( kinda same as wiper scratches)
There is another option but thats naughty

They cost about $170 fitted.
Just pay for it yourself and leave the insurance for when you really need it.

Its a roadworthy and safety issue.
Be honest with them. You are entitled to one yearly regardless of if its broken or not.

Given the roads out here, everyone makes sure thier insurance says they get "one free windscreen a year" without it affecting thier no claim status.
You get a few good stone chips, and hey, who knows, all of a sudden you culd suddenly get a strike that puts an unrepairable crack in a sceen that means it absolutely must be replaced...some of these "straw that broke the camels back" hits even seem to happen in guys driveways... |

Had the same thing on my old XH ute a little while ago... windscreen was badly pitted with the odd larger stone chip... No need to have to do anything dodgey; insurance company covered cost of replacement. I didnt want to replace it coz it was the original windscreen and i was worried about workmanship, but it didget to the stage where it did affect visibility.

I have my turbo insured with shannons; my windscreen had a couple of
deep scratches... I simply rang them up and told them I wanted it replaced via the free glass deal... no dramas; booked it in and had it replaced for free easy as pie...
