Default Engine Warning Light On

Hi Guys,

Engine warning light came on today, it is an 06 LS.
Noticed on the drive to work it would hesitate slightly when giving it some gas, went for a short drive at lunch and the light came in.

Any ideas what I can do to check anything? Will see how it goes on the way home from work and see if the hesitation is still there. No other symptoms apart from that.

Will book it in at the daler to get the codes checked and go from there maybe?

if you know someone with a bluefin or a SCT XCAL or a Dreamscience unit, or even a scan guage get them to read the DTC codes and check them online. could be a number of things or could just be a sensor failing.

thinking of getting something like this to check the codes:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/OBD-II-OB...item27bebe5b6c

Anyone had any experience with these cheaper units?

It might be OK but from experience with other cheap electronic gadgets I would recommend you spend a bit more and get a better quality one, something like this - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-OBDLi...item1c20b0c84d

If you get a decent one it should last for years

when was the last time you changed the air filter??

I had the same problem with the engine light comming on but no OBD codes came up. I changed the air filter & went for a bit of a drive, left the car overnight & it hasnt come back since. I think this worked because it reads in the manual about the engine warning light:-

"If in illuminates with the engine running, it indicates an emissions related malfunction"

A clogged or dirty air filter can also cause the motor to idle erratically because the motor is starved of air.

I thought it was a cheap easy fix to try before seeing a mechanic.

In saying that it also states that "if it flashes when driving reduce vehicle speed immediatly. If to contiues to flash avoid heavy acceleration and high engine speed."

Then there is a note that states that if it illuminates when driving its an engine & drivetrain related problem & you should stop the vehicle & turn off the engine.

Id say change the filter & see if that works, but if you are concerned take it to a mechanic to be safe.

Thanks Guys,

Strangely enough after being on for nearly 2 days of driving, this morning the light had gone off!
Will look into the code reader as it looks good!

Cheers.

Good work, you should also post your findings in the fault register to make it easy to find
