22 from 24. One I clearly got wrong, one I made a simple mistake.

24/24.
That was a cakewalk. Are kids so dumb these days that they would struggle with such a test? |

I don't know about primary school children (no contact with them really), but I see more and more uni grads that can't spell or construct a sentence, and can't do basic math - even with a calculator.

I'm real bad with maths unless I have a calculator, last one of these NAPLAN tests (2006) I think, I was 4 or 5 years below what I should be and the last literacy and numeracy tests I did (this year) I was still behind the same so I haven't really improved. I got myself a CAS calculator in Year 11, it can solve algebraic expressions, it got me through year 11 physics and year 11/12 maths. I don't do numbers, I do words |

Got the math inequality wrong (****in hated maths) and the last one with the punctuation. Can I ask is NAPLAN a direct relation to the child's education or is it a push by the schools to say yes we are this good and has no bearing on what the child knows? I overheard a parent this morning saying you'll be fine sweetheart to her year 3 child this morning and it made me think of above.

Questions are based on syllabus documents which all schools should be using as the basis of their teaching program.

We are talking predominantly grade 3 and 5 questions on that test, and you think you did well because you got 24/24?

Had a quick go, stopped half way.
Glad we didn't have these tests when I was a kid. |

Unfortunately it does not cover Writing skills that are still important. The 3 R's, 'reading', 'writing' and 'arithmetic'.
And you click on the answer from deducing that each of the others are not correct. Hardly a test in scholastic abilities, it does test the use of a computer mouse though. |

23/24, stuffed up the last one using a - in a sentence. That's a new one to me.
I see in one question they don't teach use of the Oxford comma for lists in sentences. |

That's always struck me as stupidly ironic. Talking about the importance of the basics of education, using a fallacy to do so.

You mean like I before E except after C? (or any of the other multitudes of words where it doesn't apply)

Unfortunately, not everyone can get 24, but those that can't have skills elsewhere that help make our society what it is....a mix of abilities, skills, and intelligence.
