Default Opinions on Fox Body Mustangs.

Contemplating buying mid-late eighty's 5.0 Mustang.
Don't see many for sale here in Australia.

Love them. Can buy just about any part for them too through places like Late Model Restoration and CJ Pony Parts etc.

Huh? Most years look really good. A couple of years in the early 80's were a bit average though.

Looks wise I think they are a bit hit or miss as with most 80s cars.

Technically one of the most poorly conceived vehicles to ever grace a piece of bitchumen along with it's forebearer the Cortina.

Curious about the relationship between the Cortina and the Foxbody?

I'm not saying that they aren't fun, but being dominated by an engine to the point where steering and braking inputs have little or no influence.......scary

Given the era of each, that viewpoint is up for discussion.

But is doesn't describe for the Cortina could be considered the forebearer of the Foxbody Mustang.

Was that to mean the Mustang chassis was a derivative of the Cortina in some way, or more an observation of packaging?

It's a lovely, light design that has aged well. The '82 quad-light model was particularly elegant. I'd have one.

LOL. I know.

Here is another angle of mine. The front is sitting a little high in the air as the engine and transmission were out for a freshen up.

Box Body, a dark chapter in the mustang’s history along with the dowdy Mustang II. Hardly any examples getting around in the States when I visited. Every other model is well presented, bar these two..

Obviously not the prettiest, but dark period? Not really. Here is a little history on the Foxbody cars.

1980 United States Chevrolet
1981 United States Chevrolet
1982 United States Pontiac
1983 United States Chevrolet
1984 United States Lincoln Mercury
1985 United States Lincoln Mercury
1986 United States Lincoln Mercury
1987 United States Lincoln Mercury
1988 Germany Audi
1989 United States Ford

In the 80s Pontiac, Audi and XR4Ti (1987) won 1 Trans Am championship a peice.
Chevy won 3 championships.
Foxbodies won 4.

In any Outlaw drag race class, Foxbodies tend to be taken seriously.

Not too dark.

How so... weren’t the top spec one around 200hp? So much for a muscle car.
The above ad has it advertised at 157hp. I’d have thought that pathetic figure would be omitted, especially when you could buy an entry level BMW 325i with 170hp.
