could you even do that? i reckon there'd have to be a BLOODY good reason for you to be allowed. ie. i work 17 million miles away with no public transport and my family only has v8s and i cant afford a car but if i dont work i will die cos my kidneys have failed and without work i cant afford to buy a new one off ebay...

something along those lines

its not that hard,

if you have had the car or you family has before the new regs its easy to get an exemption...

also same applies if the cars owned by your parents are restricted and the only one u can drive is a v8 or a turbo... i see many sydney rats getting away with this because of rich parents

my mate told me that you can apply to have a v8 if you carry or tow heavy stuff all the time for work, but not sure whether then youd only be able to use the car when towing.

yea in saying that even for work its hard to get as you dont need a v8 to tow also even for work purpose there really isnt any way to get around the rule im sure there was a loophole though in regards to the owning the car before the new laws but not sure probably be a good idea to rind department of transport.

n victoria, my mate is a brickie and so is his old man. the workhorse is a hq ute with a tired old 308 on straight gas. My mate had to apply for permit and it was accepted, BUT, he was only allowed to drive that ute and only for work purposes. That is open for interpretation like all road laws but I would suggest no cruising at the beach car park at 1am!

The whole point of the restrictions is to stop you driving restricted cars.. the question is a bit like asking how to get around being caught for drink driving..
Do you time then get a V8 when you're legally allowed like everyone else.

my point isnt to get around the laws, its the fact that we own one car, a v8, i cant afford a car and my parents cant afford another car either, so what do i do? just sit down and NOT drive during my p plater period?

i know you can buy shitboxes for a couple of hundred dollars but my point is i shouldnt have to buy a sh!tbox when we already own a perfectly good (but restricted) car..they shouldnt just label everyone with the one brush, not everybody who has or drives a v8 is a hoon and will kill themselves around a pole at 1am, for christsake you can do that in a v6 commodore, same end result!!

by the sounds of it, your parents own the car, you'll be allowed to drive their car providing approval but you will not be allowed to drive the XR8 you want. Buy yourself something nice and cheap to learn to drive in and save up. By the time you're off your P's, you'll more than likely be able to pay cash for your XR8 and be rather satisfied. how long are you on your P's for?

Nope, a mate of mine has to get driven 40km to school (1 way) everyday and the only car in the family was a V8 Statesman (90s model), applied for exemption and didn't get it.

I know what you mean. I wanna do it all at the moment. I wanna buy a house, buy my truck and a trailer from the boss, put a turbo on the ute, buy a new ute and still live comfortably. It's hard. I don't know much about guitars though but i suppose it's like any hobby and can consume dollars. But you'll get all your money back when you're band rules the world eh?

Get yourself an XR6 or if you cannot afford one then are so many nice cheap vehicles around these days that are legal for you to drive & get your XR8 when off P's, easy :P

You have to crawl before you can walk (we all had to as well).

My first was a 1.3 Litre 4 Cylinder Ford Escort panel van which was about 4 years old at the time & then a year later a 5 Litre HQ GTS which was around the same age but had much more get up & go specially once I spent Big money on a Performance Engine lol.

Young people want it all straight away these days even moreso than when I was young, just be patient :evil_laug

That's right. South Australians have it lucky. No such restrictions.
