It a bit harder than a normal car as the oil filter is not a spin on unit and the sump plug requires an allen key.
The oil filter is inside a plastic container with a screw off lid in the front of the motor around the middle and to the side below the fuel filter container.
Also you must remove the plastic underbelly plate to see the sump plug. Given the age of the car best you get it done professionally and keep the warranty.

It is my understanding that for this vehicle it is a spin on filter. I sure would like to see pics of the entire process. My reason is that FORD recommend an oil change every 12 months. I would like to do the a six monthly oil change myself. Sure hope someone can post a how to with pics.

Did the dealer offer any sort of club membership when you got the car?

Mine gave me points I could use for minor stuff and I used it to do 2 oil changes mid interval.

I do suggest 6 month changes as your oil is pretty much pitch black driving out of the service centre right after an oil change....

I guess your other option is to buy the correct grade of oil yourself and take it to a workshop and they will charge you a small fee to put it up on the hoist and do the work. Then, at least you can get a receipt saying they did the work and used XYZ grade oil to keep warranty intact.

I am capable to do this myself. Just wanted a "how to with pics" to make sure I buy all the right things in advance. Once a car is up on stands and the oil drained, nothing worse than realising you dont have the correct oil filter removal tool or right size alan key to remove the sump plug. Especially when this is your only car!

Fair enough then. I would suggest an oil flush as well.

Thanks DZ, but I REALLY want a write up specific to the 2012 Ford Focus 2.0 TDCI. Why? This engine is different to the old model. Different, engine shield, different located oil filter, different type of oil filter, different sump and different sump plug. A specific write up would cover where everything is, how to remove the engine cover, what is required to remove the new oil filter, sump plug removal, sump plug washer, best oil etc.

The 2012 Ford Focus 2.0 TDCI must be the only car on this earth without a DIY oil change post on the net.

Sounds like a good enough reason for you to write one .

I have the Haynes manual for the LV TDCi, obviously you don't want this one.

If I get confirmation as to what oil filter it has, what size oild filter so I can buy the right cup, what size sump plug and gasket, I probably could write the DIY. What does your Haynes say for the LV 2.0 TDCI?

I went thru this for my new fiesta. Being a new model the shops never had the right oil or the filter so I went back to the dealer and got it from the spare parts dept. Might be a few dollars dearer there but they had everything. While your there ask what size allen key is needed.

Thanks Caprispecial not as easy as with your Fiesta. The 2.0 TDCI is a Peugeot drived engine. Some sites are suggesting a spin on oil filter, some are suggesting a cartridge filter. Giving a Ford parts interpreperter your VIN and asking questions about (1) what filter (2) what size sump plug is like playing Russian Roulette. My dealer cant even tell me a price for wiper blades as there is no listing.

I contacted a Ford Dealer and gave them my VIN. They told me that the 2012 2.0 TDCI is a cartridge type filter (AFL98). Does anyone know where the filter housing lives and what tool is required to open it. Please be specific as I know it is different from LV Focus and 2.2 TDCI Mondeo. Any Ford Mechanics on here who can confirm? What size sump plug?

HELP!

if its anything like the XR5's the cartridge tyre filter resides at the front of the engine between the radiator and engine. If like the XR5's it's a 36mm socket to remove it. Don't over tighten the casing.

Hey dougone, just a quick question - for my curiosity.

If the LV and the LW both have the 2.0L Duratorq engine, what actual differences are there between the two?

Forgive my ignorance as I don't know much about the TDCi engines.

The 2.0 Peugot-derived engine is (as far as I am aware) the same basic unit that is in ALL TDCi Focus', including my LV MKII.

The Haynes manual also covers a 1.6 and 1.8 litre version never sold here.

According to the manual the 2.0 litre unit oil filter housing needs a 27mm socket to remove it.

I can't find the sump plug size in the manual, it just says 'remove sump plug'.

However preliminary searching on the web seems to indicate an 8mm hex socket is required...alas it's midnight, I live in the middle of nowhere 600m above sea level, it's pitch black and fugging cold so I'm not going outside to check (you can check yours).

Torque wrench settings
Engine Oil drain plug 34Nm
Engine Oil Filter housing Cap 24Nm

As far as I am aware the filter looks like this:

thks, Mick

RATMICK thanks for your response and your research (especially the torque settings).

Everything I am reading is pointing to:

- 8mm hex socket on the sump plug
- 27mm socket on the oil filter housing
- Oil filter is AFL98 cartridge type (dealer confirmed from my VIN)

I'm not sure though about the oilf filter housing because a search on ebay said that a special 27mm offset spanner (for all other 2.0 TDCI engines) will not fit a 2012 2.0 TDCI?????

I will need to poke around the engine bay and see if I can identify it.

Are there any Ford dealer mechanics on here who can confirm?

No, but I may need a special "u" shaded removal tool depending where the filter housing is. See pic attached.3805404228164040_1.jpg

It is the Peugeot/Ford DW10 motor, but modified slightly. If I could have downloaded a PDF I would not have posted here.
